Flashback Chevy Brings Back The Panel Van HHR Style

The 2007 HHR Panel, designed for a myriad commercial and private uses, adds a new dimension of functionality to the popular HHR’s lineup of stylish, efficient vehicles.

The HHR Panel features windowless side panels and rear cargo doors in place of conventional rear doors. A flat load floor provides more than 57 cubic feet (1,614 L) of cargo space, along with approximately 6 cubic feet (170 L) of additional covered, under-floor storage.

“The HHR Panel is a model unlike anything else in the segment, and represents a bold, expressive, functional and different vehicle,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “It’s great for delivery companies and other small businesses, but we think auto enthusiasts will love it too, as it gives them a large canvas on which to express their individuality.”

HHR Panel production is expected to start late in the first quarter of 2007. It will be offered in LS and LT trims, with 2.2L and 2.4L engines – both of which help the HHR deliver 30 mpg in highway driving.

they (at gm) ahve to be complete idiots to see the dive in sales the pt cruiser took after 3 or 4 years. sure they were hot selling way above sticker price, but now we always have 7 or 8 on the lot and they stay there, nobody drives them, i feel sad for them. its like the car that nobody loves, just drives.

why cant gm see that these are now unpopular and ugly? you cant be different by copying off of someone else.

The PT Cruiser resemblance is far from coincidence... the HHR was designed by Bryan Nesbitt... who used to work at Chrysler... I bet you’ll never guess which car he designed while he was there.

In my neighborhood, we called such vehicles with no windows "Kidnapper's Vans"

Ok! this guy got props for designing the PT Cruiser, it seem like that's all he knows how to designe.
I have not seen any other original design from him thus far.

GM doesn't need this right now. All they need to do is make reliable stuff that people want, not those stupid concepts.

Did you know that Freeman Thomas works for Chrysler now, and that he designed the Crossfire, which seems to be following in the footsteps of the TT (which he designed)?

The original TT was beautiful to behold, but it wasn't that much fun behind the wheel.

The same applies to the Crossfire. Albeit, the TT at least had better engineering than the last-gen SLK the Crossfire was based on.

And I'm sure the next Crossfire will try to be a Cayman-fighter. As if!

But, I give props to Mr. Thomas for making the 300C a looker, and keeping Chrysler out of the red (for a period of time; I believe they're losing money now). I'd buy a 300C SRT8 over a CTS-V any day of the week.
