Lexus Prices LS 460 and LS 460 L
Lexus has anounced pricing for the 2007 Lexus LS 460 and LS 460 L. Lexus has priced the vehicles aggresively, with the LS 460 starting at 61,000 and the LS 460 L at $71,000. Here is the press release.

October 6, 2006 – Torrance, CA - Lexus today announced pricing for the all-new 2007 LS 460 and the company’s first-ever long-wheelbase model, the LS 460 L. The fourth-generation LS blends new levels of performance, sophistication, contemporary styling, and luxury refinements while redefining the full-size luxury-sedan segment. With a base Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $61,000 for the LS 460 and $71,000 for the LS 460 L, Lexus’ new flagship luxury sedans will represent a compelling value in their segments.
"The new LS continues the heritage set by our original flagship luxury sedan by setting new standards in its class," said Bob Carter, Lexus Division group vice president and general manager. "This sedan has moved the Lexus brand beyond previous achievements in the areas of craftsmanship, styling, performance, and production innovation."

The new LS achieves a segment-leading combination of acceleration performance and excellent fuel consumption with an all-new 4.6-liter V8 engine mated to the world’s first eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine, Lexus’ first all-new V8 since the brand’s launch, produces an impressive 380 horsepower and 367 pound-feet of torque. It features Variable Valve Timing with intelligence and the world's first Electronically controlled intake cam (VVT-iE).

The dual VVT-iE combination of electrically controlled intake and hydraulically controlled exhaust achieves superior engine-startup operation and high-output performance. The LS 460 will travel from zero to 60 miles per hour in approximately 5.4 seconds while achieving an estimated 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, 18 city/27 highway for the LS 460 L, by the EPA testing method. The LS sedans also achieve an Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle II (ULEV II) rating.

In an effort to create a more intelligent vehicle, Lexus has combined advanced active and passive safety technology into a consolidated system. Among the new active features on the LS is the next-generation Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) stability system, which integrates and manages a new Electronically Controlled Brake (ECB) system, Electronic Power Steering (EPS), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), and engine torque via the electronically controlled throttle. The driver can also choose to completely disable the VSC system via a console-mounted button. In addition to the active safety features, the new LS has eight standard airbags, including a twin-chamber front passenger airbag with both driver and passenger knee airbags, and a potential of ten airbags with option packages.

Both LS models include a number of standard luxury features including SmartAccess keyless entry with push-button start/stop, an electronic parking brake, a 10-speaker Lexus Premium Audio system, 18-inch nine-spoke aluminum alloy wheels, and seven new exterior colors. The paint is applied by a new proprietary paint process that includes double hand sanding.

Optional comfort and convenience attributes on the LS include a pre-collision system with dynamic radar cruise control, Lexus Link®, and Intuitive Park Assist.

The long-wheelbase LS 460 L brings with it 4.8 inches of additional space and a long list of outstanding standard conveniences, including fifth-generation Lexus Navigation with factory-installed XM Satellite Radio with NavTraffic, climate-controlled front seats, heated rear seats, a new heated steering wheel, power rear sunshade, a new one-touch open/close power trunk, power door closers, headlamp washers, and laminated side glass, which is exclusive to the long wheelbase.

The new navigation system includes a hard disk drive (HDD) for faster calculations. The HDD can also store as many as 2,000 digital songs when partnered with the optional Mark Levinson® Reference Surround Sound system. The specially developed 19-speaker, 450-watt discrete 5.1 Mark Levinson® audio system creates a new benchmark for automotive sound with its theater-level entertainment experience.

The Executive Class Seating Package offered on the LS 460 L includes a rear-seat entertainment system featuring the world’s first ceiling-mounted 3.0 VGA high-quality display with a nine-inch screen that operates with an electronic-motor open/close function. It also incorporates a right rear-seat recliner with multifunction massage and an ottoman leg rest, a four-zone independent front and rear air conditioning system with air purification and the world’s first ceiling climate diffusers, rear-door power sunshades, and a fixed rear console with foldout table.

The all-new LS sedans offer the Advanced Parking Guidance System (APGS) as an option to assist with parallel and back-in parking. With this optional technology, once the driver has correctly positioned the car and identified the desired parking spot via the nav screen, APGS utilizes the back-up camera, parking sonar sensors and electric power steering system to automatically guide the car into the spot, while the driver controls speed via braking.

The all-new LS 460 and LS 460 L both come with a standard 48-month/50,000-mile basic limited warranty with roadside assistance for 48-months/unlimited miles and a special 6-year/70,000-mile powertrain warranty unique to both Lexus and the luxury segment.

The 2007 Lexus LS 460 and LS 460 L, which go on sale on October 20, will represent a strong value in their segments with dynamic styling, advanced technologies, increased size, and improved performance and craftsmanship.

I have to add that the only test so far of the LS 460 by Car and Driver got much slower acceleration times, 6 seconds for the 0-60 sprint, that car also got a very long stopping distance of 209 feet from 70 miles per hour. Waiting on further tests to see if any of the measurments were anomalities.

Yes, but why the hell is the L version $10,000 more?!

The German sedans' L versions (750i vs. 750Li and A8 vs. A8L) are about $4,000 more each. $10,000 seems a bit much.

Nice car, but it doesn't exactly stir the emotions.

Will,
I am selling what is the equivelent of what used to be the "Modern Luxury" level on 10/20 to a guy who ordered it nearly 2 years ago. The MSRP is $72,102. It is the "Comfort Plus" level. The 06 modern was $$64,109. It has gone up 8 grand, but is a much better car. I spent the whole day with it on Tuesday.

I think that one of the reasons that the L is pricier is that it has more standard equipment:
heated steering wheel, voice activated HDD Nav, Shark fin antenna, climate controlled front seats, Laminated side glass, power rear sunshade, power door closers, power rear trunk open and close, headlamp washers, 5 more inches on her waist

Will just an FYI the previous LS when comparebly equipped was just north of 78k for the short wheels base. Once option prices are issued you will see the gap grow even further. Nice car but no where near what you get from a German marque. Sure some if not most will yell quality but Porsche owning the top spot from JD Powers the quality thing is a thing of the past. Now plagued by the same issues the Germans faced the truth is now being revealed. Again not here to bash Lexus just to state facts. Still a nice car just not for me!

Its a very nice car, I give it one thumbs up on interior, and one thumbs down on plain exterior.

I know it's not just me, but profile of this car is exact replica of current 5 series. So much for Bangle bashing.

Exactly. The exterior just seems so bland... I can't describe it. Lexus went to far with their perfection of details on this one. Where some Lexus fans would argue that the A8 is bland, too, I say that there's a difference between simplicity and bland-ness. The A8 happens to be simply elegant.

The thing about the 0-60 is bullshit, another site tested it and they came up with 5.7 seconds, on the other hand, the car is obviousely weak as it is still new and it needs to run for more than 5000kms at least so that the engine opens up and delivers full power, this is my experience with all cars and i personally think that the full power comes after 15000kms especially in Japanese cars.
And hell yea is the additional 10000k worth it, anyway look at it, the LS460L is cheaper than not a 7 but a 545i.
I don't know why people look at other cars then TOYOTALEXUS.

Actually, the LS460L, at about $71,000, is only about $2,500 cheaper than a 750Li, and about the same price as a normal 750i.

The 545i isn't on sale any more, and the new 550i is about $58,000 if I'm not mistaken.

It is a matter of preference. In my opinion, it is a tad sterile for my tastes. I was expecting more when I was waiting for the new LS to come out. The look they were going for was fluid, modern, and elegant. This is a beautiful design, however sterile it may be. I like it still.

And I would put the thousands of dollars I save into a Mutual Fund.

Wow great pricing, I'd be crapping my pants if I were a European "luxury" brand.

In terms of the premium for the lwb version, we need to wait and see what the additional standard equipment is over the regular wheelbasse model before evaluating whether $10,000 is fair relative to competition.

even the weedy little clk 200kompressor cab is 33000 pounds, and that has a manual and cloth upholstery. 60000 dollars for a drop top manual merc with a tiny engine and cloth (manual adjusted!)seats. you're so lucky over there, BUT i did just find out america's average wage is 25000 dollars, where as in the uk its 45000 dollars. it's no wonder things are so cheap, and you govt has been keeping inflation very low using interest rates.

"$4000?

All those cars in general are on average $20000 more anyway."

Oh, really? The last time I checked, $72,000, which is the LS460L's base price, is right in the vicinity of the A8L and only $2,000 less than the 750Li. I didn't mention the S-Class in my post, which is rightfully the most expensive car in the segment. It's about $13-15K more than all those cars.

The LS's base price may be lower, but with the L, the gap has closed significantly. I don't see any reason to buy it over an A8L.

Sorry, $71,000. I know you'll yell at me about that.

Still, not much of a difference.

And the A8 normally starts at $68,000, with more standard features than the normal LS460. The only options I'd get on an A8 are the gorgeous 19" rims, an Alcantara headliner and the B & O stereo.

Why don't German auto fanboys hate German cars for ripping off German cars?

Yeah, car companys have ripped of mercedes throughout time (essentials such as airbags and seatbelts where pioneered by them)..So a little round device in the center is OKAY to be taken.

Plus, mercedes have perfected what BMW did in the first place, thats all it is, the COMMAND system is a POS, on the other hand the Mercedes system is flawless and easy to use..

Did you even read what I said???

"Last time I checked, most new S550s were stickering for $85-100K, and the A8 may normally start at $68K, but let's face it, the LS is general has always been the least expensive out of all of them."

1. I mentioned in my post that the S550 was $13-15K more than its competitors! And worth every penny!

2. Why does the LS "in general" being the "least expensive out of all of them" have to do with anything, if the new LS is right up there with the 7 and A8? And the LS430 had some $12K option packages, and I expect the new one will, too, because Lexus has barely any stand-alone options. Overall, a loaded LS460L will surpass the price of an S550. And yet, I'd still buy a base S-Class. The LS would just make me look like a grandpa... and that's not the message I'm trying to get across.

But instead of either of those boats, my next car will be a Porsche 911, thank God.
