The next Volkswagen Golf will be revealed tomorrow, and will bring with it more solid evidence of Volkswagen's new electrification strategy, ushering in an era of new super-frugal mild hybrid powertrains. Despite being a facelift, the Golf will be updated heavily.

It will still be a dull Golf and that will be the problem. VW doesn't understand that Honda is the one to beat with the Civic and the Golf/Jetta are just dowdy as hell by comparison. The Civic kills its VW non-competitors with superior styling, quality, reliability, and durability.

The Golf needs an exorcism, not a mild restyling.

The predictably subtle mid-life changes brought to the Golf are designed to improve the overall competitiveness of the seventh-generation model against a raft of rivals until the arrival of more heavily altered eighth-generation Golf in 2019.
