Java Green BMW Alpina B7 Is an Unexpected Choice
The guys from BMW Abu Dhabi definitely know how to draw attention to themselves. They have been showing us some of the cars they deliver and none of them seem to be normal. If they aren’t decked with tuning parts, they at least wear a special paint on the outside. This BMW ALPINA B7 Bi-Turbo model makes no exception, as you’re about to see.

Usually, cars as sober and elegant as the BMW 7 Series don’t come dressed in anything else but a couple of shades of black, blue and grey and, maybe, if you really want to go crazy, white. Of course, the Individual catalogue will allow you to go wild and get any color you want, but it seems like the consensus out there is that the aforementioned colors fit the character of the car best.

The 7-Series, in general, is one of my biggest automotive disapointments of the past 5 years. I was so looking forward to BMW finally getting it right and approaching the design excellent of the S550...but NO.

Its not a handsome car in my opinion - kind of a hot mess actually, stylistically.

By the way, the green color shown here is (I think a standard) Alpina color - consistently on offer from when Alpina started 20+ years ago.

It used to be called "Safety Green" - its a legacy German car color - in fact West German (pre-unification) police cruisers and also the leathers of German motorcycle cops all used to be this color. The color is the best looking part of the particular car.

The 7-series is such a disappointment. Perhaps BMW has lost its way.

BMW was never a real competitor for the S-class - and neither was Audi - both companies specialize in smaller sports sedans - and Both companies have failed to see that in big cars - the owners want Luxury first.

For many years - BMW led with the 3 series - which was bought by young professionals - as a sports sedan (Ultimate driving machine) - and the Audi 4 series drew from the same pool. The problem is that these cars are no longer in the price range of the young professionals in a lot of countries - AND - the older people who generally buy larger cars(who once were 3 series buyers)- are not looking for a punishing ride as an exchange for good track handling. Mercedes actually did the right thing - it polled its owners - and people who might buy from them - and the results were that they wanted more Luxury and less "sport". Mercedes listened - and gave the customers what they wanted - and they customers responded in droves.

BMW has lost its initial customers to price creep - and loses its older former customers to a more responsive (to their requirements) Mercedes. ANd that is why BMW is starting to sink.

The color is garish. As mre30 says: "Its not a handsome car in my opinion - kind of a hot mess actually, stylistically."

BMW needs a 9 Series that truly does what the S Class does.
