2017 Ford Taurus – It seems that everybody forgot about Ford’s Taurus.
The car has been around for quite some time and it still is available for sale in the US. However, the car sold now it based on an ancient platform so it is heavy, not that fuel efficient and it has one of the smallest interiors among large cars. A new Taurus has been rumored for a while but so far Ford only launched a Chinese version of the new model. This is based on their CD4 modular platform so it is much lighter than the US version. On top of that, it is also similarly powerful, a lot more fuel efficient and faster as well.

Why do we still get the old model then?

It seems that Ford doesn’t think the Taurus has a place on the market. Luckily, though, some of their rivals proved them wrong and a 2017 Ford Taurus might just come on the US market. Like you would expect from it, the car is more than likely going to be the same car released in China a while ago. Unfortunately, though, Ford doesn’t really have a factory suitable for building it. This means that the US version might be built in China and imported in the US

Recently rented one of these and enjoyed the drive. It is however a little hard to see out the back. My understanding is that the fusion has almost the exact same room inside of this car but it's trunk is quite cavernous. Seems Ford could do a thorough refresh on the platform and keep it in service but there are other large competitors that are much better than thIs car

The new Taurus is a Super Fusion. I'm thinking that the other Super Fusion--the Continental--came first so that the Continental would not have to face the shame that the Cadillac XTS did when it was released so close to the Impala.

Arguably, the Fusion is big enough, but most definitely in a shrinking sedan market, a new Taurus would be a niche seller.

If anything Ford needs a new "Flex" i.e. a crossover between the Explorer and the Expedition much more than it needs a new Taurus. The Explorer seats 7 but not as comfortably as the Flex and for a lot, more room would be welcome.

It is ancient. It was an ancient Volvo platform when it became the 500 and the 500/Taurus was only restyled to become this generation of the Taurus and this generation has been around forever.

The Taurus is even a sucky police cruiser. Remember the glory days of law enforcement's love affair with the 'Crown Vic'?

Sad that Ford gave up that segment.

The Explorer Interceptor is the one law enforcement is buying by the truck load.

The later generation Taurus' look like an SUV coupe before anyone thought of call it that. Awkward, thick proportions.
