New Engines for Range Rover and Range Rover Sport

A fourth engine will join the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport line-up by the end of the year, with the all-new TDV8 twin-turbo diesel bringing added potency and torque to the off-road market. The 3.6-litre unit’s power won’t impact upon fuel consumption figures, as it returns a commendable 25.5 imperial mpg (roughly the same as the TDV6 in the RRS), while the TDV8 will be sold alongside the existing engines – the TDV6, V8 petrol and V8 supercharged. In the Range Rover however, the TDV8 will replace the old TD6, renouned for its lack of power to shift the Range Rover's hefty weight. Acceleration is vastly improved, with the 0-60 time dropping from 12.6 to 8.5 seconds, no doubt thanks to the power increase over the TD6 of 98bhp and 148 lb/ft. It will receive the same stiffer suspension as in the Range Rover Supercharged, as well as Brembo brakes. It is expected to take around 85% of Range Rover sales. All RR Sport models will be refreshed to coincide with the launch of the new diesel addition, with the range receiving an improved specification list. Pricing details are yet to be disclosed, but the diesel RRS is expected to cost about £44,000.

No one, in American gallon this translates to about 21 miles per gallon in combined driving. Still a great improvement over 16 MPG combined for the gasoline version.

not sure that people actually buy these to go off-road, they buy them because they are the most prestigious 4x4. it's practically in a class of its own. soccermums love them here, you only have to go to notting hill or kensington in london to see them everywhere.

List is Endless, Over 90% of High End SUV buyers will never take them off road
(Maybe those who wait and buy them as used models in around 5 years)

Like i have said before, I use an SUV and although i have jumped the centre divider a couple of times, i have never taken it Off Road.

I agree in general that Range Rovers are good offroaders,but according to several magazines,
Range Rover Sport dissapoint a bit when it comes to off-roading capabilities,they said even the cheaper sibling LR3 can perform better then it.
Some magazines even said that the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne are better off-roaders than the RR SPORT.

And i agree with 195Speedingtickets.

If u really want a true OFF-roader,the most practicle one,buy Japaneese.
Toyota or Nissan or Mitsubishi.

The RR Sport may not be the best off-road vehicle but the LR3, Defender and the normal RR are the best out there.

I love the Range Rover...

my friend has a supercharged one, it sounds so nice, like an amg merc really. it burbles. don't know about any reliability horror stories though.
i doubt america will get the tdv8, and the rrsport refresh is due sometime in 2008. get an x5 for a year maybe?

As much as I agree that the RR is a great truck...

If you plan on driving it until it breaks down, your safest bet is renting one for a weekend.

Does anyone know when they will be releasing this TDV8 stateside, as the article mentions a refresh for the Sport to coincide. I am currently lemon lawing my Supercharged Sport, and would prefer to wait for the refreshed models before I got another.
