Scarlett Johansson says it's a mistake to get a BMW as your first car
Scarlett Johansson has revealed she nearly died in a car crash because her first car was unsuitable. The actress splashed out on a BMW sports car after she passed her test but now knows “it was a mistake to choose it as my first car. It was too fast and too wild. Someone should have said, ‘Don’t do it!’ I wrecked it. It was in a million pieces and the only reason I walked away was because of the airbags. They saved me.”

Great question! :)

So what does BMW have to do with this? Is it BMW's fault that she drove to fast? Is it BMW's fault that she lost control and nearly died?

Cars can only protect you so much. Death or injurt can still occur in the "worlds safest car". The safety systems are there to protect you as much as possible, but that's no guarantee that something can happen to you.

If Ms. Johansson had this accident in a tank, she'd be claiming: "I don't recommend an M1 Abrams to teenagers because I nearly died in one..."

Celebrities and their bullshit...

It's a compliment that BMW would be able to drive that fast. Not worthy of a BMW-defensive tirade.

"So what does BMW have to do with this? Is it BMW's fault that she drove to fast? Is it BMW's fault that she lost control and nearly died?"

Exactly. This article has nothing to do with BMW being a bad company. She has nobody to blame but herself.

And if she were in a cheaper car, such as a MINI, for instance, she might not have come back alive.

injurt = injury

But it's ok for her to drive a Lexus and recommend a Lexus to teenagers, right?

Last time I checked, a Lexus was SUPER FAST too...

Will, if Scarlett J. had an accident in a Lexus, the title of this thread would be: "Scarlett Johansson says it's a mistake to get a LEXUS as your fist car..."

My point is that this is BS. Let's face it. Scarlett J. could have screwed up in any car. Instead of admitting to her mistake (that she drove too fast or that she simply can't drive), she blames it on the manufacturer - in this case, BMW. Worse, she makes an idiotic statement telling people not to buy BMW's for their kids just because she crashed in one of them. Stupid. Stupid.

Stupid.

It's like Lindsey Lohan screaming, "Don't buy a Mercedes because I crashed one, they're unsafe..." Get it? BS. Bullshit...

BMW530i, I see what you are saying and you are right to say so.

Now, let's get one thing straight, JESSICA ALBA IS A GORGEOUS LADY!

Also - Scarlett Johansson is sexy!

Which goes to show that BMW save lives. If it were another lesser brand, she might not have walk away unscratched.

And so you think…
The structure of the car probably absorbed most of the impact. The airbag merely save her face from any scratches and scars.

But that's just it. People are often quick to think that their car's capabilities equates to them being a good driver. It sure as hell doesn't.

Same thing when airbags and ABS came out. Their true benefits took a while to materialize because people thought the increased safety they brought could allow them to drive more recklessly.

Well, like a lot of people, Scarlett is just stating that the BMW logo on the hood can give you a sense of overconfidence. It's no different than those with Honda Accords who feel putting a "Powered by Honda" sticker across their windshield is a passport to drive fast and furious. Even the "ultimate driving machine" cannot make a person a better driver just by owning one.

Side note, Scarlett is amazingly hot!

Maikoazu, you are right the structure saved her life, the airbags get her jobs and dates!!

I wonder what BMW she drove. She should be thankful that she made it out alive, but oh NO she's blaming her car for her accident.

"Scarlett is just stating that the BMW logo on the hood can give you a sense of overconfidence." did she really state that...NOT. You're making things up.

"Powered by Honda" so what?

(TRD) Retard <- what bout that?

Listen, the article was from some cheap celebrity site which probably misquoted. None of us were there and so we don't kno if she said it with a smile(like a joke) or not. So lets just say she's hot (as is Jessica Alba lol) and BMWs don't cause accidents, cuz thats really all we know.

Will an airbag does not save live alone, it has to be the structure of the car.. put a airbag in a pinto and crash, you problably die..

huu76,

Blame does lie with BMW for marketing themselves as Ultimate Driving Machines. They should know that if someone is dumb enough to buy one, then they'll be dumb enough to think they can drive however they like.
============================================

Eh...that's their marketing slogan. Don't blame BMW here. If the airbags didn't deploy, then you CAN blame BMW. The safety systems in this case worked. Scarlett J. is just being ultra stupid with her claim that people shouldn't buy BMW's.

Lexus are fast, but they don't encourage their clientele to go out and be stupid.
===========================================

That means nothing. Like I said before, if this happened th SJ in a Lexus, she'd be telling people not to buy a Lexus because of bla bla. And I've seen many Lexus drivers driving like maniacs, weaving through traffic as if they were on a racetrack. You see such people with every carmaker.

Ever notice how often you see young ppl driving BMWs weave in and out of traffic? I just laugh whenever I see one on the side of the road for whatever reason.
==========================================

See my comment above.

and why might she have logical?
because she would have been able to go even faster round that corner thanks to the superb quattro system, that's why.

the worst part is that this post made it to the site, and even more depressing that I wasted 20 seconds of my life reading it and typing this. Oh well, I'm bored :)
