Why Are So Many Celebrities Abandoning The Prius For A Tesla?
Teslas (Specifically the model S) have quickly become the most popular car in Hollywood second to a Range Rover, and actor Tobey Maguire is a part of that crowd. Tobey was seen out in LA getting in to his gray Model S after leaving a workout. While I’m a huge fan of them, it’s getting a bit redundant seeing every celebrity ride around in one.

On the plus side, I’ve noticed a huge decrease in the amount of celebrities that drive a Prius since Tesla jumped on the scene and that’s something I think most of us here are grateful for.

Because tesla drivers are posers.

(1) For most celebrities, the Tesla is their second, third, or fourth car - so when there is an inevitable issue with it (and it gets flat-bedded away for two weeks) - they can just drive one of their other vehicles

(2) Its pretty 'easy' to drive a Tesla in California - everyone has garages, weather is good, most driving involves going 40 miles in traffic, well within Tesla's range. Also, lots of service centers and charging infrastructure.

(3) They're douchy.

Driving a Tesla is a challenge elsewhere in the country.

Further - Tesla probably gives celebrities the Tesla's for free! That's probably the real reason so many celebrities drive them.

Celebrities are fair games - but come on guys, there is no need to put down Tesla drivers for what they want to drive.

One could easily say the same mean things to any particular group of drivers out there based on a few examples, but it is unbecoming to do that here without any provocation.

Civility and decency should be observed and practiced.

Right. Not that either Prius or Tesla are bad choices.

If I had the coin, I'd take a Tesla over the Prius any day. The Tesla S just looks 1000x more fun to drive & is also 1000x better to look at. And if that's my 3rd or 4th or 5th car in the garage (aka grocery-getter) & I don't ever drive any long-distances...the Tesla is perfect. The Prius seems more like an appliance lately.

My guess is that celebs are financially well off, they'd rather be driving a blinged-out Mercedes or Bentley (because they can), but those who want to make a statement by driving a "planet-saving" hybrid or EV, are choosing to get a nicer (more upscale) Tesla than an econobox Prius.

And my guess is that their lease on their Prius ended and they needed to get a new lease car. As people get older - their need for a more comfortable car increases. One could describe the Prius as many things - but comfortable is not really its strong suit.

Because they're considerably nicer inside than a prius. Ever been in a prius? They're cheap as hell

Well, yes, it is cheap, that's why it's priced in the $20K.

Why is he ashamed to be seen with his Tesla?
