SPIED + VIDEO: MORE All-New Pics And Clip Of The Next-Gen Mercedes-Benz CLS Replacement, The CLE

...Although dressed in heavy camouflage, the sleek profile of the CLE - which is essentially the next-gen CLS with a new name - is clear to see, with body dimensions that look near identical to those of the current car.

This suggests the changes will be evolutionary both outside and in, with the new E-Class offering the best insight into how the CLE’s details will look.

The E-Class will also lend its underpinnings and drivetrains to the CLE, hence the E in its name, meaning it’ll come with a selection of turbocharged four-cylinder and V6 petrol and diesel engines, as well as the E 63’s 603bhp turbocharged V8 engine for the AMG CLE 63 model...

The butt end looks like it's going to be a loser for looking good.

So I'm torn because I still need to see it in the flesh without the wraps, the current generation of the CLS was disappointing given the safe corporate exec approach it took unlike the first gen which was more emotional and put the industry on notice.

So far I'm a fan of the new coupe rear ends/ tail lights but this will be the first time they grace a 4 door sedan, and even if it does look good, will the design be enough to warrant the premium over the rather safe/reserved E Class

Judging from pics I don't think so but then again I felt the same way about the GLE coupe until I saw one in person which has been handidky outselling the X6

For a car with questionable interior space - what sold this car was its original gorgeous styling - but now everyone has a 4 door coupe - and the great styling is gone. I suspect this will not be that successful.

Indeed. When Sonatas, Fusion, Malibus, and Mazda6s have that coupesedan look and arguably do it as well or better, Mercedes needs fresh ideas.

I thought the first CLS was ugly as sin, but it's replacement was far worse because the styling went from polarizing to nearly generic. The premium coupesedan to beat for styling is the A6 which is gorgeous and the tail is utterly sublime.

I wish Mercedes would have gone with a wedge i.e. lose the rise-and-fall lower edge of the DLO and jettison the poopie diaper look of the trunk.
