Mazda Officially Turns Back On RX-9 Sports Car....AGAIN!
After all the rumors in recent years and despite launching the drop-dead gorgeous RX-Vision concept, Mazda has ruled out any hope of an RX-9 sports car.

During an interview with Automotive News, Mazda chief executive Masamichi Kogai said the company has no plans to launch a sports car larger than the MX-5 Miata.

When asked specifically if a successor to the RX-8 was on the cards, Kogai said “I think that as a sports car option, the MX-5 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter conventional engine, with its power and acceleration, might be a more exhilarating experience.”

Not surprised, but too bad. The Z and Supra could have used some more competition.

The Z already has competition that obliterates it.

Mazda could have really made an impact here. They could have really taken this segment over with a beautiful, wonderfully performing coupe. The 370Z looks awful and the new Supra in camo form, doesn't look as promising as the concept.

I don't understand Mazda, they need a Halo car not just under powered good cars. How are they not interested in building a sports car, they don't have enough traffic to their showrooms they need something exciting like Mazdaspeed (MPS) 3 or 6 and bring back the Rotary and name it RX-7!
