Toyota Commits To A Second Gen GT86 - But Will It Have A Bite To Go With The Bark?
Toyota’s return to the sports coupe segment with the GT 86 has been a successful one, and the company is already planning its successor.
 
Karl Schlicht, the automaker’s European division boss, told Autocar that the second-generation is most definitely a go, probably for a late 2018 or, most likely, 2019 launch.

Well, the GT86 was never about brute power or acceleration. It is more a sports car. Light, agile, tossable, and fun.

And a handful of people bought them. The question is WHY CAN'T there be a version with some real power and handling for those of us who define sports cars via competence rather than the ethereal butt trumpeting that Mazda (and now GT86 fan boys) farts out whenever they try to explain away the Miata's dismal sales.

Maybe an EV, and low volume would not be a problem. Super performance and great commuter option, which for most does not need to be a four passenger.

I hope they ditch the incessantly dumb Subaru engine and do something to improve the handling. This car is a slider--which feel exciting--but it's just not that brilliant at the track.
