Strategic Vision Survey: GM Vehicles at Top as Toyota Missteps

Toyota Motor Corp. lost some ground to the competition in an annual vehicle value survey released today.

Honda Motor Co. held onto its overall ranking as the best full-line automaker, while General Motors Corp., which won in four segments, was the only domestic automaker with any top-ranked vehicles.

Toyota, which had seven segment winners in 2005, took only three categories in this year's study by Strategic Vision Inc. Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Co. gained ground, with its Kia Optima taking the top spot for medium car, the Hyundai Azera winning for larger car, and the Kia Sedona ranking as the top minivan. The Hyundai Tucson tied with GM's Saturn Vue for top-ranked small sport utility vehicle.

San Diego-based Strategic Vision surveyed more than 64,000 people who purchased new vehicles from October 2005 to March 2006. Participants were questioned after 90 days of ownership. The study, separate from Strategic Vision's quality survey, tries to capture whether consumers believe they got their money's worth and factors in emotional components.

Growing up as a kid, I really liked GM; my dad had a rock-solid GMC Sierra 1500 V8. It is still going strong to this date.

As of the last 5 years, I have grown to really hate GM for their severe lack of imagination towards anything that could hold value or sentiment in 10 years. Chevy Impala? Watered down, sterile, gov't car. This is supposed to be Chevy's flagship sedan. Make it creative, forward-thinking, and stylish!

Anyways, I am not going to go into more detail about why GM SUCKS. I will just finish off by saying that Ford or DaimlerChryslef should have a position in this spot, NOT GM!

This wasn't a quality survey, so it wasn't that surprising that GM won a few categories; they've been practically giving their cars away over the last few years.

The only people buying GM are the bargain hunters who want a new car at the absolute lowest price and don't really care about things like style, driving enjoyment, etc., which is basically what this survey was about.

The MB guys have done wonders with Chrysler. Before MB, Chrysler was losing $1mil per day, now they are losing $1.5mil per day. Hyundai/Kia are ripping off their own government and company. Kudos. Other words everyone has problems and everything is cyclical.
