Bugatti Moves More Than 200 Chirons, Still Nearly 300 LEFT To Sell — How Long Will It Take?
...Talking about orders – the 2.4 million euro hypercar from Bugatti received 220 confirmed orders so far. Enough reason for Bugatti to increase production capacity to 65 cars for 2017 which means there is a 3 year wait for new orders at the moment. With potential customer test drives scheduled from March 2017 the CEO has good hopes the remaining Chirons will sell quickly. “I’m confident the customers who have not yet decided to order a Chiron will do so when they have had a chance to drive it..."

...Initially Bugatti aimed to produce the limited production run of 500 Chirons over the course of eight years but this might be reviewed and accelerated if all cars sell out.

An interesting fact about the initial delivery order; existing Bugatti owners and especially those that own multiple vehicles will receive their Chirons sooner than those new to the brand. Bugatti rewards brand loyalty and at the same time gives the trade of Veyron’s a boost...

Just like with the Veyron - they will sell 2/3 and then getting the last 1/3 sold will be a struggle over the course of the 6-7 year production run.

The market for such a car is miniscule and I wouldn't be surprised if, due to VW's money problems, either Bugatti shuts down (it can't be sold because there is no one with the technology and blind faith to dump money and know-how into the brand, like VW) or else turns into an "engineering" company like Lotus or McLaren became after car manufacturing proved to not be a consistent money-maker.

The problem with the brand is that the cars are so 'tech-heavy' that they will not age well and as they are not really beautiful - they will have limited niche appeal in the collector market. With a car where each tire is custom made and costs about $20,000 - what do you do in 15 years to keep it on the road?

I guess at some point, owners just park them, but (unlike vintage Ferrari's which are beautiful and timeless and which you could stare at like art for decades and decades) the parking will be in a garage or barn or warehouse and not in a living room or gallery.

For now, they are cars of ballers, dictators, and petro-royalty.

At some point - owners will have a 20-year old Audi on their hands, where systems are no longer repairable, electrics no longer work, and tires can't be sourced.

Look on Ebay for 20 year old Audi's or VW's - there are really none, relative to the amount sold and those out there are falling apart. The VW based parts are not durable for the long term, like Benz or Ferrari.

Check the resale of recent Lambo's VS Ferrari's of the same vintage - Lambo's are used cars and Ferrari's are collectible.

Porsche used to be an enduring, durable, marque but I worry that the VW ownership has ruined them as well.

I am worried
