As Gas Prices Drop, Searches for Fuel-Efficient Vehicles Slow
As gas prices fall further below $3 a gallon, consumer searches for fuel-efficient vehicles have started to decline. According to the most recent Cars.com Consumer Search Index report, cars like the Toyota Prius, Toyota Yaris and Honda Insight top the list of new and used vehicles with the largest decline in search volume over the past month.

While searches for fuel-efficient vehicles have declined, searches for large luxury SUVs have increased significantly. The Hummer H2 and H3, Infiniti QX56, Cadillac Escalade and BMW X5 all made the list of used cars with the largest increase in searches over the past month.

Why are searches suddenly, automatically related to gas prices? That's the ONLY thing affecting people's search for cars? Hello?... The "buzz" over the release and reviews of Yaris, Versa, Fit and others are finally dying down. BMW just launched new info on their X5, and X3. Acura on their MDX, and Honda on the new CR-V... and so people are checking out competitive comparisons. Gas prices or people just following media trends?... How did PR Newswire completely miss that as a possibility?
