2018 Chevy Equinox to kick off from $24,475

2018 Chevy Equinox to kick off from $24,475
It won’t be going on sale until next spring, but Chevrolet is eager to reveal the starting price of its brand new 2018 Equinox. The cheapest version money will buy is going to set you back $24,475 (including destination charges) for the entry-level L trim with the base 1.5-liter engine. Chevy rates the four-cylinder unit at around 170 horsepower (127 kilowatts) and 203 pound-feet (275 Newton-meters) delivered to the front axle via a six-speed automatic transmission enabling the overhauled crossover to return 31 miles per gallon on the highway.

Should the power of the 1.5-liter not be enough, a beefier 2.0-liter is going to be introduced in the second quarter of the year. That one will produce 252 hp (188 kW) and 260 lb-ft (353 Nm) and is going to be linked to GM’s brand new nine-speed automatic transmission.

When I clicked on this story, a Dodge Journey ad was juxtaposed with the Equinox and it looked doddering and old by comparison.

The price is appropriate, but I don't feel motivated to get behind the Equinox and push. The current one sells partially "just because" and partially on discounts and for my sake I hope that continues.

I initially thought the styling was woefully unfortunate, but then the truly hideous CRV showed up and did Chevy a favor. Hyundai, Ford, and Mazda are more stylish, cost the same, and offer competitive quality.

So why not get the full package?
