EXCLUSIVE: First real-life shots of the new GM pickups-STUDS OR DUDS?

To say there is a lot riding on the success of the new GM pickups could be the understatement of the century.

Here's a look in real life at the new truck from the 2006 California Auto Show.

The big question is the new design a STUD or a DUD?

The interior is certainly a thousand times better than the last one but we're lukewarm on the exterior design...It looks too tame for our taste...Do you agree?

Naw, I don't like it too much.

(BTW, I was out of town since saturday. I reserved a Magnum for a rental car, but I got a 07 Camry instead. It was incredibly slow. It handled like jello.)

Compared to what? My parents have an 06 Camry and although the steering is pretty loose, it handles perfectly fine and has a very competent chassis with very little body roll. Its handling feel increases as speed increases as well. Since when was a Camry meant to BE a sport sedan anyways? If you want a sporty CAMRY(which you DON'T anyways), then go for an SE V6 which would probably leave you stunned that you drove a Camry.

It looks good and has a very nice looking interior.

Although, it does look just like a F-Series HD from the front!

Unless you get a Magnum with a hemi, it's gonna be hella slow also, all that extra weight the smaller engine has to compensate for.

looks about the same as the last 3 gens of pickup, but I guess there isn't much to change. Interior still looks cheap and bland.

Yes, 4cyl LE. I know I would have liked the V6 better.
Actually I've had a Charger rental w/ the V6, and it was pretty powerful.

it's a merc v6 (the 3.5 is at least). in the uk we get a 300c estate in place of the magnum.

I think the interiors are a huge improvement over the previous generation.

The interior is light years better than that rehashed Chevy Citation dash that was in the last gen of GM pickups.

The interior isn't too bad. The outside styling is alright, nothing extra special but overall the lines aren't too bad. However it still lacks a gas guzzler tax.

I dont believe there is much room for design innovation when it comes to pickup trucks.I just hope they maintain their lead quality especially since the new toyota is coming.

I think the Sierra is sharper than the previous version, inside and out.

But I wouldn't buy a pickup anyway, so I don't really care about that market.

yes, but is a HUGE market, so it has an effect on all of the markets.
(Ford puts big bucks into pickups, so their cars lack.)
so, if Audi were to make a pickup (lets just say), and it failed, Audi would go out of business, crushing your deams about the next A8.
(The Blackwood is a different story......)

Trucks rock. They hold their value well except for Dodge. Reagan should have never bailed out Chrysler.

Lipstick on a pig. Trucks suck. Only 5% of buyers need the open bed. The rest of them get their stuff stolen and rained on, because they want to look tough instead of driving a full-size van. Vanner here, maybe the last one. :)
