The problem with these designation is that they are normally be done by an Auto Magazine or Auto related "entity" - whose first priority is how good it is at being a race car. Handling, Power, all those things that make it a good "DRIVERS CAR". However - for a mid-size car - the Mazda has the same problem the Last Generation Malibu had that detractors railed against - poor rear seat room - snug is being generous. And it does not sell well - for that reason - to FAMILY car buyers. For those who want a two seater with a rear luggage shelf- there are better options as well. And since a lot of the buyers who would have bought this vehicle are now buying crossovers for their more upright seating which giver better leg-room - the Mazda essentially appeals to what the MID SIZE CAR REVIEWERS want - and not what those who would buy them want.
