Ferrari marks 50 years in Japan with gorgeous J50
Ferrari Japan is in a festive mood nowadays as it’s blowing the 50th candle on its anniversary cake, but that’s only half of the story. To celebrate the important milestone, Ferrari took a 488 Spider and turned it into the “J50,” the latest special model of which only 10 units are ever going to be made.

As you would imagine, each and every one is going to be tailored to the exact specifications given by the owner. This one was presented in Tokyo wearing a lovely three-layer red exterior combined with an equally nice red-over-black cabin dipped in Alcantara and leather.

Niiiiiice! Glad to see Ferrari is stepping away from their current styling language, and isn't embracing the flat surfaces, straight lines, and "flurry of trapezoids" that is the trend du jour.

Styling wise, my only criticism is the headlights aren't "just so", but they aren't a huge problem.

Gotta say, if I were a rich man, this is a Ferrari I would get. I haven't felt than way about a new Ferrari in many years. Too bad only 10 units are being made. It would be great if this reflected Ferrari's new direction.

I find it to look like a low-rent JC Whitney wannabe Lamborghini nose with a regurgitated Alfa 4C side. NOTHING about it says Ferrari. Terrible.

You both bring up a number of interesting points. Here are a few complementary observations from my vantage point.

1. The rear hip appears to be taken from the 246GT
2. The front fender and overall proportions are similar to the 308GTS
3. The black midline that runs from the bumper and across the door reminds me of the F50
4. The nose has the length and angular nature of the Gallardo
5. The side profile is reminiscent of the 488
6. The wheels appear to have been lifted from a Sesto Elemento
7. The nose/headlights side profile remind me of the cute cartoon dragon in attack mode (and a bit of a Miura)

So a bit of a mix, which leaves me with mixed emotions. I don't dislike it but I'm certainly not about to try to get one... So between the two of you.

Just thought I'd offer a compromise.

I like it, agree with the Steve… the only really sexy regular production Ferrari's of late have been the 488 and 458. They should adopt a lot of this language, shrink it down a bit and build that rumored Dino successor.
