VW design staffer slams Atlas as boring '2012 Ford whatever'! What do you think?

Our colleagues at The Truth About Cars had the opportunity to chat with a member of Volkswagen’s design team during the Los Angeles Auto Show where the Atlas made its debut. He was partially responsible with the large SUV’s styling, but he expressed his disappointment in regards to how the final design has turned out.

When asked by TTAC what does he think about the Atlas’ exterior, his response was rather shocking: “It’s boring. Of course it’s boring.” He went on to specify “that vehicle is four years old. And by that, I mean it looks four years old.” He didn’t stop there with the surprising statements, adding “it looks like a 2012 Ford whatever. It could be anything.”

Who cares - its a Volkswagen - with the exception of the CC - they don't exude style at all.

The car for me is fine elegant and tipical VW design language, people always are complaining , they said that Lexus has to much angles the grill is horrendous etc etc , now VW because is boring , for me is fine in and out. The quality is superior when you compare this to a Ford Explorer.

Wow! I guarantee you that the Explorer has better quality. VW's are EXPENSIVE to fix once out of warranty and they typically need a lot of fixing.

Well its typical of current VW design. Rather boxy and conservative. But has reliability improved? That is the question.

Not much you can do with a box on wheels...outside looks decent and no worse than the competition. Interior looks a little spartan like most VWs do...hopefully the material quality is good.
