When Cars Drive Themselves What Is Going To Make You Choose One Brand Over Another?
When cars drive themselves, passengers may not care if they ride in a Chevy or a Ford. After a century of building automotive brands based on how they drive, carmakers face an existential threat in the coming age of autonomy. If a customer no longer pilots a vehicle, the marque of its maker may become irrelevant. After all, most people don’t reserve a flight because it’s on a Boeing or an Airbus, so automakers are trying to turn today’s cars into a connected extension of the home or office to keep their names vital.

In my remaining lifetime - I seriously doubt that I will not be able to choose a car that I will drive myself. But I have already warned of what is going to happen when cars are controlled from the outside of the car - ie - by speed limit signs - and required spacing - and slower acceleration - etc. WE are already nearing that possibility of cars communicating with each other as well. At that point - the "thrill" of driving a car yourself will diminish greatly - and the "performance" potential will no longer be of value. Luxurious interiors and amenities will separate the commuter car from the upscale cars - but there will be far less reason to choose a bigger engine - when you will not be able to accelerate any faster than a Prius.

I absolutely agree. The mindscrew begins with them telling you the control is good for you. Yes, dominance and submission can be fun as heck, but not when it comes to my inalienable rights.

Many cars can already be instantly tracked via their internet connection today... so what? If you're not okay with that, just buy older cars. 99% of the population will eventually want cars with some form of self-driving functionality. Every single major auto-manufacturer in the world is working on self-driving tech.
