DRIVEN + VIDEO: So, What Is The All-New, HOTTEST Lexus, The LC500 REALLY Like?
Though I just got done writing about the all-new Ford GT and how the way FoMoCo handled its introduction and production is staggering, next up is Lexus with its all-new LC500. It's another vehicle that had a jaw-dropping debut and now we're rounding the corner on it hitting showrooms in early 2017.

But, what's it really like? As of now no one really knows except some of our Aussie friends that got had some seat time.

Having said that, a couple reviews have rolled out since their product event. See what this reviewer has to say about the all-new LC, below.

Here are some of the highlights:

- Its engine is, predictably, magnificent — it's the same 5.0-liter, naturally aspirated V8 found in the RC F and GS F
- It's a step out-of-the-box for Lexus from a design perspective, which is a good thing
- The LC's interior is a lovely place to be

Doesn't seem like there's much to complain about though I am sure there's got to be some niggles here and there.

The Japanese brand is breaking new ground with its Porsche-rivaling coupe.

I just can't get past today's "Lexus look" :-( Sorry guys. So NOT my cup of tea.

To pile on to the already laughable spindle grille, let's put more check marks, triangles, and tear drops on the face of this visual abomination.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. The front 3/4 is really sublime. The rear 1/4 is absolutely hideous.
I do like the interior. But this is NOT a "Porsche-rivaling coupe".

This car is very color sensitive and yellow does it no favors. In red, it's a lot nicer looking.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I've no doubt that this LC500 will be a hit out the gate, primarily just based on hype of its design. But Lexus runs the risk of abbreviated longevity with this design. Like most of Lexus' recent efforts, this may be a design that grows off of you, vs. on you. Not to mention, when it's time for a mid-cycle refresh, where do you go?
For me, this design has already started to grow off of me. Unlike the original Lexus SC, which, even today, I still look at and admire its clean and attractive, yet fairly dynamic, lines. Conversely, I look at the RC and it's already lost its visual impact and its sales (1/3 of the 4 Series) might be an indication. I appreciate designs that continue to draw you in, no matter the age of the design. Coupes/GTs that come to mind are the current S-Coupe, the E31 8 Series, original Lexus SC, original Acura Legend Coupe, almost any Aston Martin, the Porsche 928, Jaguar F-type and XK, the Mercedes R230 SL facelift, and Infiniti G35 coupe.

Just like the new RX is not selling. That vehicle will continue to lead the class just like it has since 1999. The front of Lexus cars is being accepted and copied.

You're comparing the RX's relatively conservative styling to the frenetic, lines-just-to-be-lines styling of the LC? You're comparing buyer's tastes in the middle-tier SUV segment to buyer's tastes in the upper-tier GT segment?
If the RX didn't have the floating roof effect, then it wouldn't be that much different than any previous RX.
