Elon Musk's Next Venture Is Boring Tunnels
Tesla and SpaceX’s Elon Musk has floated the idea in the past of digging tunnels under highways to reduce traffic – an idea he had while sitting in Los Angeles traffic. Now he is apparently serious about doing it and he even has a name and tagline for the venture: “The Boring Company – Boring, it’s what we do.” He has been thinking about the idea for a while. In January 2016, he mentioned it during SpaceX’s Hyperloop pod design competition: “It’s a really simple and obvious idea and I wish more people would do it: build more tunnels. Tunnels are great. It’s just a hole in the ground, it’s not that hard. But if you have tunnels in cities you would massively alleviate congestion and you could have tunnels at all different levels – you could probably have 30 layers of tunnels and completely fix the congestion problem in high-density cities. So I strongly recommend tunnels.”

Obviously - Mr. Musk is preparing to need a place to hide - when other ventures don't pan out.

I think its brilliant. Also, in this highly controlled environment is the only case where I think self-driving cars make sense. Be even better with drive-on rails that interfaced with car chassis and could do 200 mph.

Caterpillar tried this and failed with the acquisition and disposition of Lovat in Toronto. If Cat -one of the largest construction concerns in the world couldn't make it a viable product, how will Musk? Maybe they will be solar powered?

I am glad that I am no share holder in his ventures as he is taking on way more than he can chew...

You can say the same about GM, Ford, and Chrysler not being able to make a viable electric car, or NASA being able to make a re-usable rocket.

There are no environmental / safety concerns with this I'm sure.
