Would You Do This? Volkswagen Owner Takes Extreme Measures Before Turning In TDI For Buyback

Joe Mayer, a Cincinnati car salesman, says he’s turning in his 2010 Volkswagen Golf TDI as part of VW’s court-ordered buyback, but not before stripping the car down to the bone, removing the doors, seats, hood, bumpers, hatch and a big portion of the interior. Just look at this naked carcass he’s selling back to VW!

This DieselGate situation is such a sad cluster-f--k that nothing will surprise me.

The worst thing about it, is that VW diesels were really one of the best products VW offered and customers (many repeat customers) were very passionate about their VW diesels. VW spat in the face of arguably its best customers. VW has completely F--cked over what should have been its most cherished niche.

Not surprised at all that disgruntled customers are stripping the parts off of their cars, not surprised at all.

Customers LOVED their VW diesels and now VW is like the spouse who was caught cheating, repeatedly, with 100's of people, over 10 years. Just disgusting.

As annoyed as I am about what VW did, there's no way I would do that to my Passat or Jetta when I return them next week. That's just being a jerk. I'm getting back almost all of what I paid for them both, and that's after driving the Passat for two years and the Jetta for six.

What this person is doing disgusts me far more than what VW did.

I believe VW will have the last laugh on this. VW's offer is to buy back a car, not "something that used to be a car before the owner stripped it down to the frame." Big dumb move on the owner's part.

They won't accept his car like that - the document he signed says the car must be "operable"...which this one now isn't....he's an asshat - I hope they refuse to give him any money

And his buyback appointment was cancelled. If he hadn't been so public about it he might have gotten away with it.
