2019 Mercedes SL will reportedly use AMG GT platform
The seventh-generation SL is being developed by Mercedes-AMG and is said to have many things in common with the GT Roadster, including a soft top.

Several spy shots (see below) from the Nürburgring emerged onto the web a few months ago with a shorter Mercedes S-Class Coupe believed at that point to be a test mule for the all-new Sport Leich. However, that might not have been the case since Autocar is reporting the next-gen SL will actually ride on the same platform as the AMG GT, specifically the recently introduced Roadster version.

Not sure why Mercedes would create this potential redundancy between the SL and the AMG GT Roadster. Mercedes needs to keep the SL as a hardtop GT and let the AMG GT Roadster be the lighter weight sports car.

The SL is for old people and always has been. It will be driven by men who will go from the retirement condo to the golf course to cocktail hour and then home to feed some Viagra to the wiggle monster with the hope of magic happening.

The AMGGT is for people who don't have their caskets already picked out.

The SL is the weakest link in the BM portfolio. It reminds me of a 90's Caddy. Hanging on to old customers and failing to reinvent itself.

Perhaps a fresh platform would help.

But it's still humpy-looking and ugly!
