Tesla Dominates Consumer Reports Owner Satisfaction Study With 9 Out Of 10 Willing To Buy Again!
More than nine out of 10 Tesla owners would buy their cars again, leading the industry in Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey.

The survey, released today, found that 91 percent of Tesla owners said they would “definitely” buy their vehicle again if they had a chance to do things over. That’s an industry-best score by a significant margin, beating second-place Porsche by 7 percentage points.

What's the definition of 'owner' ? Is it simply vehicle operator or is it people who actual plunk down the cash to purchase it or are 'lessee's' lumped into there too?

Everyone I know who drives a Tesla - likes them.

However the lease deals on them are completely insane - all around.

My friend traded in an 8 year old MB (blue book value $16K) and Tesla gave him $27K for it - he drove out with a 24 month lease on a fully loaded, six-figure Model X P90D I think for like $800 or $900 per month. Price out what a similarly priced MB S550 goes for - its $1,800/month with a $12K trade and $1,300/month for a $27K trade.

Of course everybody loves their Tesla's - they are driving a $100,000+ car for about what a $60,000 car would cost to lease.

@ mre30: "My friend traded in an 8 year old MB (blue book value $16K) and Tesla gave him $27K for it" - this is an outright lie!

Everybody knows that Tesla always low balls trade ins. In fact, they emphasize this and encourage buyer to sell their cars elsewhere for better cash value.

I know you don't like Tesla - that's fine - but don't spread lies because you will be called out like this.

The rating does not surprise me. Everyone I know who owns a Tesla loves it and everyone I drive around in my car seems to be a a fan. The Model S is a great car--not perfect but overall an outstanding milestone for the US auto industry and a harbinger of what's to come from other companies.

As a ModelX owner, I agree completely. Well said.

These "surveys" are not useful information - because they ignore actual problems and stress "feelings" which may or may not reflect actual experience with vehicle. VW cars ranked high for years - when their actual reliability and repair problems were mounting. Same thing with Toyota - where their owners perceived reliability also did not match the actuality. In the case of expensive cars - owners are generally people who own more than one car - and don't have to worry about losing mobility or renting a car when one goes into the service bay. AND in the case of really new technology - the owners tend to expect and discount teething pains - because they have the newest and best.

I would prefer to see actual repair data - instead of an owners "feelings" - after all - they actually spent the money - do they really want to say they were fools?

@TomM Typically, these surveys are done while the owner is still in the honeymoon phase.

TomM, I definitely won't lie, it hasn't been an easy journey with our Tesla. Since June I have taken the X in for adjustments or even repairs on at least 4 different occasions since we picked ours up. However the point of this article is what Tesla has done with their customer service which I can honestly say I have not experienced with the other manufacturers whom I've dealt with in the present/past. There is a very high degree of "we will do all we can" approach with the service center representatives. There is no fuss, strange looks, balking, hesitations. They will just fix it at no cost to the customer. They know the Tesla (nor they) is not perfect by any means. The experience at the SC and the emphasis on ensuring all customers are entitled to a loner Tesla for example, I personally have never experienced this before and can absolutely relate to the message presented in this article.

I've had almost no issues with the Model S, far fewer than previous cars (Lexus, Toyota, Hyundai). The Model X was a bit more ambitious, it had several features not available on any other cars. Bob, at the initial rate of issues when the Model X was coming off the line, completely agree that would not be scaleable. The new cars coming off the line today are much more reliable and fall in line with industry standards.

The Model 3 launch "should" be smoother since they are not innovating with new features, but are focused more on the manufacturing and efficiency side of the equation. It uses fewer parts, the software and core drivetrain have already been perfected from the S and X, and nothing is being introduced that isn't already available. They were going to get fancy with the steering wheel, but I think that plan has been shelved until well after launch.
