BMW has had the panaramic moonroof since 2004. They have had the 350hp 4.8L engine since 2005 (though it was actually 355hp in 2005 and 2006). Neither of those are copying Audi. As for the size, well, I don't know how you can copy a vehicle's size. Cars are whatever size they are, in this case BMW had to make it a few inches bigger to make room for a third row. There are plenty of other midsize SUV's with third rows, the Q7 being the newest one other than this, so I don't know why BMW doing it means they copied Audi. If they were copying, wouldn't they be copying whoever did it first?

You forgot the Range Rover... I think that the RR still has more of a substantial, elegant look about it, moreso than the X5... but both are beautiful for the trucks they're meant to be.

Guys listen to yourselfs. BMW comes out with a car one year after Audi that is the same size, same hp, same features and they are not coppying Audi.

Damn you guys are drinking the KoolAid

Since IAmEvilHomer either didn't read this or just can't read, let's try again:

BMW has had the panaramic moonroof since 2004. They have had the 350hp engine since 2005 (though it was actually 355hp in 2005 and 2006). Neither of those are copying Audi, they had them FIRST. There are plenty of other midsize SUV's with third rows, the Q7 being the newest one other than this, so I don't know why BMW doing it means they copied Audi. If they were copying, wouldn't they be copying whoever did it first? By your logic then the Q7 copied the Toyota Highlander because they're the same size. Regardless, it's not like BMW only took one year to design the new X5, they were working on this well before the Q7 came out.

Interior looks great though. The exterior is growing on me

The Q7 is vanilla looking in comparison. And I liked the way it looked. But this new X5 is slimmer and meaner than before, and than the competition.

Nice to see they're offering silver with tan interior, a nice combination many automakers don't offer anymore...I always wondered why automakers dictate which colors combinations are available

I have to say this is probably the best BMW to come with "flame surfacing" but then again it could turn out quite bad in the real world. But so far it isn't that bad. Not sure about the interior.

Honestly give me a VW Touareg and i'm good to go or even the Range Sport, god know whats happening with BMW these days. WEAK!

Please explain why everyone talks about how good BMWs drive, but omit the fact that their reliability is POOR.(Consumer Reports)

BMWs have a driving aesthetic / soul the those Nissan people just can't grasp (though they do understand bling, don't they?). The line about quality is pure b.s. What's more is that BMW is now the only brand including no-charge full maintenance with every new vehicle... :)

consumer reports base their opinions on cheapness (price) because their subsribers are cheap, most of them shop at wal-mart oops sorry the wal-mart. None of their testers are Autoscribes. Why is it that people who bash BMW are always comparing there cars/suvs to a BMW and talking about the snob appeal are they really that jelious.

While I appreciate the ventilated seats and bluetooth integration, it looks too much like the old one.

I'm going to stick with a current Cayenne S or even better Turbo S, thank you!

I hate the wheels. Awful! After Chevy, BMW is the worst company in destroying the esthetics of their cars.

Not sure what the purpose of this guide is and how is it different from the consumer brochure.

Depending on my timeline I might consider the older 2006 at a heavy discount.

Great features. Especially the panoramic roof.

If it wasn't for the 503 hp ML63 AMG I'd actually consider getting one.

Infiniti FX: 2,364 ... YTD 16,317
BMW X3: 2,823 ... YTD 23,295
BMW X5: 2,241 ... YTD 21,243

I bought an FX for my wife and had it for two years great exhaust note but that was about it. Consumer reports rated it high however I was in the shop with fuel tank problems, weather stripping and powersteering pump failure. Not to mention having to put 3 sets of brakes within a two year period fist time at 11,000 miles.(no not user error). I upgraded a year ago to a BMW X5 no comparison in quality, refinement and drive. Oh BTW not one problem to date. I have personally drove BMW for over 5 years, there is no substitute for the drive and reliability based of new JD Power studies rates BMW and Toyota as having the fewest problems period. Look kiddies (I know not all of YOU) there is a seat for everybody but for pure driving fun and refinement there hasn't been anyone in the industry that can match the feel and prestige of BMW vehicles. Enough said and guys try to grow up!

There is no such thing as prestige behind a mass-produced vehicle. It's all in your head. There are plenty of arogant bastards driving BMWs and giving the marque and the rest of the BMW drivers a bad name. How's that for a reputation?

That said, the X5 is such a bag of joy! It's not hard to experience it after one has tried the competition. Looks and numbers, features and slogans don't five the whole truth. The X5 does rock!
