2018 Toyota 4Runner - Rumors
So far the 4Runner has been one of the perfect true crossovers offering not only a lot of space and quite a good cabin but also incredible off-road performance. Unfortunately it competitors moved recently to unibody chassis which started the rumors that the 2018 Toyota 4Runner will make the move as well. So far they haven’t confirmed anything about the future model and all we know for sure is that it is going to be an entirely new version. If Toyota will move the car to a new unibody chassis then all of its off-road prowess is most likely going to be gone.
On the other hand, this would come with quite a few improvements in terms of space, refinement and also on-road driving characteristics. Despite all of that many still, say that the future 4Runner would remain a body on frame design. This would mean that all the off-road prowess many love about it is going to remain the same.

What utter BS: "If Toyota will move the car to a new unibody chassis then all of its off-road prowess is most likely going to be gone."

Jeep has demonstrated that a unibody can have excellent off-road prowess FOR DECADES.

As a 4Runner owner it would be great if Toyota would spend a dollar or two and galvanize the frame + suspension arms. My 2005 4Runner was made in Dec 2004. The body is just fine but the frame continues to rust as I live a snow belt zone. Salt on winter roads is a part of life in North America and this one move to address this key weak point would go a long way in keeping owners happy. With the Highlander and Venza around there is no need to change the formula. If the newest HiLux is still a body on frame design, so too will the next 4Runner.

The Venza is dead. The real question is whether Toyota (the brand) needs the 4Runner.

They should launch Land Cruiser as a brand and make it a competitor to Land Rover. The Land Cruiser brand would easily find a home at Lexus dealers.
