Elon Musk Tweet Confirms Another Tesla Roadster Is In The Works
When asked about the possibility of bringing a successor to the Tesla Roadster to market, Elon Musk tweeted back what is, in essence, an a-OK. “Some years away, but yes,” he said. Now that the fire is lit, the time is high for us to pour a bit of gas on it.

Officially dead since the fourth quarter of 2012, the Tesla Roadster is the car that got the ball rolling for the Palo Alto-based electric vehicle manufacturer. Over the course of four years, Tesla sold just about 2,500 units of the thing.

It has always been public knowledge that a new Roadster would be released in the future. All we know is that it will be based on the Model 3 platform and have Tesla's third and final performance setting called "Maximum Plaid." This is a Spaceballs reference like "Insane" and "Ludicrous" mode before it. If Ludicrous is already 0-60 in 2.4 seconds, I can't imagine what Plaid will be.

How about 2 second flat from nil to 60, 190 mph top speed, sub 0.2 Cd, lap the 'Ring under 7 minutes, and costs $200K ?

And can recharge to 80% within 5 minutes using the hyper-charger available by then.

Not to mention self-parking and summon mode, level-5 autonomous driving when needed, ...

All of this is totally doable with today's technology and a couple years of development.

But first thing fist - get the Model 3 out in the next 9 months and shut the doubters for good.

I don't hate the Bolt, but it's a joke compared to the Model 3. The best thing about it is you can buy one now and won't have to wait until 2017-2018. It's a compliance car, but at least it is the best non-Tesla EV so far.

I think the Model 3 will be here next year, but if it does slip to 2018 I'm not going to pull my deposit. If I can get autopilot V2, 215+ mile range, and sub six second AWD performance for under $55k I'll be a happy camper.
