2017 BMW i8 – Future for today
BMW has shocked us all with the Bangle era. Many fans were vocal and harsh with their critics of new radicalized design and disruption of tradition. Top of the line 7 Series even featured boost in sales year before the introduction of new Bangle one in 2001, as the buyers rushed to buy last “proper” 7 Series before things got spoiled. After that new version became the best-selling one in BMW’s history? So, two things are certain, people don’t know what they want, and you just cannot please them all.

Despite obvious, BMW hasn’t stopped trying and after people’s mourning about Bangle era in recent time and criticism about the lack of styling thrills, Munich shocked us ones again with i-series. BMW i8 concept was revealed in 2011, and it just strolled down to the public roads three years later almost not changing any of its highly futuristic concept’s lines. It has been two years after introduction and let’s see what 2017 BMW i8 has to tell about itself.

re: "So, two things are certain, people don’t know what they want..."

That's stupendously presumptuous assuming you know what's better for everyone else. I'm a believer in "each individual gets sparked up when you present them with something that appeals to THEM." If they're not sparked up by your offering, you're deluding yourself by embracing the "they don't know what they want" belief.

In my opinion with respect to styling, BMW seems to be "trying too hard." You see that in the i* with it's need for attention, to be seen as "innovative" and "revolutionary." You see that in the new Lambos and Ferraris.

In contrast, Porsche's styling looks like that athlete who high-jumps over 8 feet -- they make it look effortless and natural, while you know they're freakin' awesome for being able to pull it off.

Just my two cents. It ya love the i8, good on ya, and go for it! To me, it just looks like it's crying to get attention by being garish.

ive had the car for about a month now, i think just as toyota tried to make the prius look weird in its own hybrid way, bmw did the same for this I8. its not like manufacturers cant make normal looking hybrids, they do it to stand out.
The car is definitely out there and after a whole bunch of normal cars its def not something im used to- people constantly taking pictures, videos , asking questions. never got any negative comments although one guy did come up to me to tell me " i bet i could take you on my camaro"
overall the reactions are pretty positive so i think bmw succeeded in what ever it was their goal was - other than selling them at high volume rates. I believe the i3 isnt selling too well for them either.
I never thought id say it, but i really do think this is the future of cars, i actually like it more than my m3's and ive had 4 of them. ( i do think at some point ill go back to a normal looking car - m4, gtr, 911, corvette next hopefully)
the i8 is too much as far as attention goes.

I don't know what I think about the i8. Compared to the painfully dull and boring looking 6 Series it stands out, but it looks to me like what a stunning 2017 Mitsubishi Eclipse would look like if Mitsubishi hadn't given up after the second generation and kept the design ethic moving forward.

The i8 just doesn't look like a BMW to me, but at least it shows that somewhere in the organization, BMW has a pulse.

As for the i3, that is a total disaster in every way.
