Toyota Releases New Corolla in Japan This Month

These are the first of images of the next generation Corolla that goes on sale later this month in Japan. Details of the new car are up on Toyota’s Japanese website, which showcases both the sedan and wagon versions. The JDM delivered car is considerably different to the Auris concept that featured recently at the Paris Motor Show and we doubt this is the vehicle that will be sold as the Corolla replacement for markets outside Japan. Instead, for European and US markets, the Corolla will be replaced with a new car based on the Auris concept, although a name hasn’t been confirmed as yet. It will receive a unique name and is expected to be larger than the JDM Corolla, coming equipped with an optional 2.0L engine.

In its home, Toyota is sticking with the Corolla nameplate but with the Axio tag added for its sedan and Fielder name for the wagon. For its tenth generation, Toyota engineers focused on improving quality levels and interior space rather than performance. Inside, the car gets a reversing camera as standard and double-folding rear seats that move at the touch of a single button.

Driving the wheels is a new version of the 1.8L four-cylinder mated with Toyota’s Super CVT-i gearbox developing 100kW and 175Nm of torque. There’s also a base version with a 1.5L motor and conventional five-speed manual transmission as well as a high performance four-wheel drive model.

In europ they are as expensive as a Golf but they sell still alot because buyers belive on TOYOTA's quality and security.

The Auris Concept will be in the US and Euro markets. Is this to better battle the Civic as the Auris looked sportier than this plain version. A 2.0l should be good. About the name change it most likely will be called something like Corolla Auris (a la Corolla Matrix). The current model is successful so why change it right?

This car is simply amazing I love it, i rented one once and i was soo impressed with how smooth and comfortable it is, fuel economy is just unbleivable and the 1.8 engine that comes in the Gulf countries is just unbelievably powerful, it has 168hp and can hold up with a 3.0 Maxima until 150 km/h, The maxima in the gulf countries looks like the infiniti I30 and has the same engine.
If anyone was to buy a small economical car...the corolla is yours.

corollas have always tended to be underappreciated until you drive or own one.

i bought an '03 last year, mainly just on the basis of price, and also since i own one of those indestructible toyota trucks.

while mine has "only" 130 hp, it is more than adequate for the weight of the car. i have rarely had to call up all the ponies. the few times i did, it was as much to hear the extra thunder and push when the variable valve timing switches to the hot cam.

with a restrained right foot, i have gotten as much as 40 mpg in OVERALL driving. (it drops to mid-30s on trips, since i rarely cruise at less than 75 - 80 mph on the open road.)
