RENDERED SPECULATION: IF This Is What The Next-Gen BMW X5 Looks Like Are You Going To Give It Two Thumbs UP Or DOWN?
If there's one thing we love, it's renderings. And when they feature volume products, we get particularly interested. That's because there's a lot riding on a vehicle's design when it is a sales leader.

The BMW X5 is the subject this 'go around.

While the Bavarians recently gave it an all-new generation, it is not exactly a departure from the previous-gen product. It's very much so an evolution rather than a revolution approach. It makes sense as the last model year of the second-gen X5 was still selling more units than the previous year. From a business perspective, there was absolutely zero need to rock the boat.

Now though it's a different story as I believe the Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90 are better offerings at that price point. BMW needs something great and some panache.

While we've seen the next-gen X3 and X7 testing, we're awaiting shots of the next-gen X5 undergoing development. Given what we've seen from the X3 and X7 we're not sure what to think at this point.

So, I think it's safe to say the artist behind this rendering was just taking a shot in the dark. That said, what do YOU make of it? IF this is what the next-gen BMW X5 looks like, would you give it two thumbs UP or DOWN?

Is BMW now taking its styling queues from Audi? (Previous gen's rounded face, overly-stylized and angular headlights).

Nah, not caring for it. Take the latest 5-series sedan, make that into an SUV, and you'd do better.

SPOILER ALERT - These "depictions" are actually artist renderings - as said above and clearly in the article as well.

I would suggest that these have just about as much chance of accurately depicting a new BMW as a crayon drawing from Donald Trump. The most controversial features here are very very unlikely to come to pass.

Front looks good. Back still a disaster. Side profile looks awkward - needs to have more ground clearance with same roof height to elongate the car more and make it more truck like.

I agree...the front looks nice, but that rear is not pretty. It seems as though it was intended for a 1990 vehicle rather than a 2019.

Rear contours remind me of a Honda Odyssey.

The X5 in general is a terrible looking vehicle. I can't even tell the difference between an X3 and X5 anymore. Thankfully the M Sport package fixes a lot of the aesthetic issues.

Now if only they'd fix their spectacularly failure-prone engines. While no manufacturer is infallible, from the X5 and X6 reviews I've seen, especially 2012 models, these vehicles seem like they spend more time in the shop than on the road.

Thumbs down. What's with the odd round lights stuck on as afterthoughts? What's with the Fusion headlights? What's with the ugly face crease? The rear is vile.

An over-stylized front end with a horrible rear. If this is close to what BMW's next X5 will actually look like, the brand will have a major problem on its hands. The current X5, which many would say looks better than this concept, is already seeing its U.S. sales collapse.

Did you just steal that photo from the Subaru Forester XT? Looks 80% identical.

BMW should have evolved the previous generation X5. It stood out in the crowd without looking weird.

Exactly why I kept my 2013 X5. I am not a fan of the new 5 or 7. If the X7 looks like a larger version of the current X5, hello Audi.

Aww.. how cute, another station-wagon!
