TRUMPED: Ford Buckles And Cancels $1.6 Billion Mexican Plant - Saves 3,500 American Jobs

Ford Motor Co. will scrap plans to build a $1.6 billion plant in Mexico, after coming under criticism by President-elect Donald Trump for shifting small-car production south of the border.

The next-generation Focus compact car will be built at an existing factory in Hermosillo, Mexico, and Ford will cancel plans to build a plant in San Luis Potosi, Chief Executive Officer Mark Fields said Tuesday. The second-largest U.S. automaker will build two products at a factory in Wayne, Michigan, where it assembles the Focus now, protecting about 3,500 jobs.

The link takes you to a video where the CEO said they'd be making the same decision without Trumps influence and without his election....it's literally the title of the video.

The problem with Mexican production is that it's an economic boon to Mexico, but the USA get nothing in return.

The question for Trump: do you want Ford to be profitable and competitive long term or be like VW where all your products are overpriced because you are beholden to union benefits? The reason why VW products are cheaper today than 10 years ago is simple: VW plants in Mexico and U.S., where unions don't run the show.

Weird how right wingers are now crowing about Socialist policies working? Government interference in business affairs seems to work just fine now according to the right wing nowadays.

It's amazing what strong leadership experience can do. Fields, the Ford CEO, indicated that Trump's pro-growth agenda and increased optimism (after 8 years of incompetent leadership) led to their decision to invest in America. Big win for Trump and pro-growth politicians.

Yeah and as I stated in my earlier comments as usual it had nothing to do with Trump. This was a business decision based on small cars not selling and not needing the plant.

I'm praying that they break the UAW. Unions came to be ONLY because there were no laws protecting workers. Those laws now exist. BUT a worker has a right to work and should not be compelled to belong to the union because that violates his civil rights. Moreover, the sole purpose of a union should be collective bargaining and NOTHING ELSE. In fact, it should be illegal for unions to do anything other than collective bargaining.

Tauron-That is totally not the case. Ford's CEO actually cited optimism about Trump and his policies as a reason for keeping the plant in the US.

http://www.foxbusiness.com/features/2017/01/03/ford-ceo-betting-on-trump-s-pro-growth-agenda.html

"One of the factors that we are looking at is a more positive U.S. manufacturing business environment under President-elect Trump and some of the pro-growth policies that he said he is going to pursue,” Fields (the Ford CEO) said.
