Fiat Chrysler Becomes the Latest To Buckle Under Pressure From Trump To Save US Jobs

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles on Sunday said it will invest $1 billion to modernize two plants in the U.S. Midwest and create 2,000 jobs, upping the ante as automakers respond to threats from President-elect Donald Trump to slap new taxes on imported vehicles.

FCA's announcement that it would retool factories in Ohio and Michigan to build new Jeep sport utility vehicles, including a pickup truck, and potentially move production of a Ram heavy-duty pickup truck to Michigan from Mexico, also highlighted the auto industry's keen interest in getting relief from tough fuel economy rules enacted by the outgoing Obama administration.

General Motors Co Chief Executive Mary Barra on Sunday said tax reform and "streamlining regulations ... are just two areas that would be extremely beneficial" for Trump to address. Trump has criticized GM for building cars in Mexico while laying off workers in the United States.

It's amazing what strong leadership and years of executive experience can do. Too bad we wasted the past 8 years with somebody that had neither of these attributes.

FCA was already committed to this a year ago and is in the process of implementation. No new news here.

Liberals can continue to whine and doubt the impact Trump is already having, but the proof is out there. Whether its companies directly investing in US jobs because of Trump and his policies (Ford and Carrier) or companies that have been considering expanding jobs and now are ready to execute with the new POTUS, it goes to show you that Trump is already delivering results for the American people and will continue to do so. You will see a flurry of legislation passed this year to help grow this country and get it on track after 8 years of disappointment.

FCA specifically said this has been in the works for over a year and had nothing to do with Trump. BTW should we also give Teu,p credit for Macy's cutting 10k jobs? I am all for Trumps plans to review our trade agreements but let's be real here, he had nothing to do with this as FCA made quit clear in their press release.

You can dodge reality all you want, but companies AND consumers are bullish on Trump and his policies. We have seen a Trump rally on Wall Street, multiple company executives indicate they are hiring or planning expansions as a result of his pro-growth policies, AND consumer confidence indices that have reached their 13-year high this past month after Trump's victory. A majority of Americans have indicated they are optimistic about what is ahead in 2017. Does this mean there will be some companies still hurting...sure, that is always the case. But on the macro-level, Trump will finally get this economy revved up after the slowest economic recovery we've ever had since the Great Depression.
