#NAIAS: Subaru Presents Updated WRX And STI Edition At Detroit Auto Show
The newest official information suggest that the biggest changes for the future 2018 Subaru WRX STI are refreshed design – especially front look, an upgraded performance, refined interior and new Brembo brakes. Now that the Lancer Evolution is gone, and most of the market has been flooded with hot-hatchbacks, the Subaru WRX STI is one of the few remaining true high-performance sedans with deep roots in the World Rally Championship.

Unfortunately, while the current model still sells relatively well for how much money Subaru invested in it, its engine is already ancient, and while the running gear is still capable, the car is nowhere near as good as some of the current hot hatchbacks like the Golf R or even the all-new Focus RS, so in order to compete with these cars Subaru will have drastically to rethink their ongoing generation of the STI.

Let's refresh the old body when the new body is coming out...That way when we do a WRX with the new body it will be old again! They should call it the Subaru New Old Stock!!!

It is perplexing especially given that the WRX is a very good reason NOT to buy an A3, CLA, or 2 Series. They should have hit hard with a new WRX.

Subaru should turn WRX into their "AMG" because Subaru has a LOT of potential to become the near-premium brand that destroys in the market.

Yes but they also want to be in specific price range. Going AMG could pus them into mid or high 40K bracket. Like VW Subaru may have a hard time selling at that level given it has always been in the 20k to 35K bracket. I am looking forward to a development of the 2.O turbo with DI. There is clearly more development in that engine. But the mid cycle updates are useful. If Subaru can maintain or better the handling, improve ride comfort and improve interior quality it is addressing most of the criticism's of the 2015 to 2017 model range. This then brings it quality and ride on par perhaps with a GTI. With extra power and AWD it becomes the better buy if hey keep the price close. Same with the STI and Golf R. The Focus RS is the best handling but it need a serious interior update and a revised suspension to make the day today driving more livable. More than one publication have talked about how poor it's ride quality is. That should not have to be the case.
