If Ford's New Bronco Looks Like This, Would You Be Whipping Out The Checkbook?
Someone claiming to be a designer at Ford has been answering questions about the next generation Ford Bronco and Ranger in a Reddit AMA. In it, the alleged designer claims the 2020 Bronco and 2019 Ranger will be basically refreshed versions of the Ford Everest and Ranger, an SUV and truck sold in other markets. The Ranger news is not a surprise, but if the Bronco is an Everest, it won’t look as rugged as we all seem to want it to.

I like it, but not sure I would buy it. I think there is a good market for more macho looking SUVs with some modicum of off road abilities, hopefully the new Defender from Land Rover also follows this type of design theme. I was disappointed in the new Discovery and most of the new SUVs are designed to be more suburban minivan replacements than anything. I think there is room for 3 types of "SUVs". 1) Those that appeal to minivan replacement Audi, Lexus, Honda, BMW etc... 2) Rough and tumble SUVs like the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Defender, last gen Discovery, RR Sport etc... 3) A rally type SUV, not sure if one exists at this point in time but someone should build one...could grab some of the STI, EVO crowd.

I would possible buy a used one as a crappy weather day vehicle, but wouldn't want it as my daily.

While I haven't been a fan of some of the new angular edgy origami SUV styling, this Bronco looks old school and dated to my eyes. My reaction surprised even me...maybe I only like old school designs that are on old vehicles or the new designs have wormed their way into my brain more than I imagined.

If the Everest is the new Bronco, this is an epic fail. The Bronco is iconic like a Mustang, whereas the Everest is a pleasant, but forgettable SUV.

Agreed, used to go Elk hunting with our neighbor and that Bronco was an amazing off roader.

I soon as I get my Bro-card, I'm going for one.

The rendering is very cool because it's keeps the basic form of the original. If it looks like that I think they will move a lot of units. It's tough to re-work a very recognisable and or iconic design. Will be interesting what LR do with the Defender and Mercedes with the G wagon as well.

It's not bad looking. I wish Ford did not cheap out by cutting a hole in a fender to run the radio antennae, integrate it into the windshield.

I don't think I would pay $45,000 for one, but something in the $30k range with the turbo-6 wouldn't be too bad.

I am not sure I would want a small inside 4x4 - two doors - with a back seat that has limited access - which is made harder by the height of the vehicle - and has very little storage capacity. IT would need to have a roof rack for me at least. However - it depends on the price - it would have to be quite a bit cheaper than a Tahoe - which is what I would prefer. Actually - the last Body on Frame Blazer - with that straight 6 OHC engine made for it was nice - but never really sold because of crossovers. I am not sure if this would sell well after the first initial rush.

The picture is a bad photoshop based on the OJ White Bronco. It is not a Ford design study. Google "Ford Everest". That is what is coming.

This boxy Bronco looks like the answer to a question that no one asked.
