Toyota Says New Camry Won't Help Sales
Despite the eighth-generation Camry launching in late summer, and predictably good deals to be had on the outgoing model, Toyota doesn’t foresee a sales increase for the midsize sedan in 2017.

“We did 388,000 last year. Give or take, we’re looking at a push,” Bob Carter, senior vice president-automotive operations for Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., tells WardsAuto in an interview at the 2017 North American International Auto Show.

Perhaps if they made a more attractive people mover, then more people would want one.

Camry is already the best selling in its class by a pretty healthy margin, and this new generation will preserve their lead. However this is a declining segment and that is why they won't see much gains. Most people who used to buy these family sedans are now buying compact/midsize SUVS.

Exactly. Leave it to the Eurobrigade to put negative spin on this.

I would think the new model will come too late in the year and be in short supply from startup, plus changeover downtime and people holding off for the new model; this will constrain this years sales. 2018 sales should be a record year. Honda's experience, with the new platform Civic, brought in the buyers. Maybe just stealing car sales from other makes. At some point SUV sales will peak and start down, probably once gas prices go over $3. As for as cars values go, you won't beat a 2017 Camry with big incentives and good deal stock. 20% off sticker should be readily available.

Toyota needs to figure out how to make the Venza work. It was a brilliant move as a product, but died for sales. That really surprised me.
