BMW Fails To Cower Down To Trump, Pushes Forward With Mexican Plant Despite Threats Of 35% Tarriff

German carmakers pushed back Donald Trump’s threats of import duties on the autos they make in Mexico, pointing to extensive production expansion in the U.S. in recent years.

BMW AG, which the president-elect singled out in an interview with German newspaper Bild on Sunday, sought to defuse potential tensions by stating that its largest factory is in South Carolina and that cars made at a planned, smaller factory in Mexico will be exported globally. Trump said BMW will face a 35 percent import duty on vehicles it exports to the U.S. from Mexico.

"Fail to cower" ?? More like standing up to this m*f*g bully with his usual scare tactics. I applaud your courage BMW.

So far Trump is just "tweet, tweet, tweet". We will see very soon if he can upend NAFTA once he learns from actual analysis of the consequences.

I have to hand it to Trump, the dictator and thief, he really knows the people he is trying to reach and the medium for that. Tweeting 140 characters is brilliant since he never has to form full sentences or coherent thoughts, which works perfectly his brain dead sheep like Matt who can't process anymore than that at a time.

How does threatening anyone make you a "deal maker"? The very definition of a deal is that there is some sort of mutual benefit. See definition of "deal" --> "an agreement entered into by two or more parties for their mutual benefit, especially in a business or political context.". I can't for the life of me understand how people who support him can't understand this basic concept and see this man for what he really is. A spoiled, entitled bully whose sole skill is intimidation.

Actually, no.

Many deals--even civil ones--are win/lose, but people not in the business world think that some magic unicorn nirvana world exists where everyone wins.

NAFTA is a prime example of win/lose. Mexico and Canada won, and the USA lost big time.

I cannot wait to see Trump destroy the bitch in Berlin. THAT will be a delight to watch.

@MDarringer......having had to utilize NAFTA twice to allow me to work in Canada as an American, I have to disagree with you. If it weren't for this agreement, vital parts of my resume would be missing. People who don't rely on it couldn't care less about the agreement.

This is akin to those that say the ACA has cost them more money when even though they're healthy, and shouldn't be required to pay into it. These are the same people that do a 180° as soon has they have a life changing health scare.

Anecdotally, NAFTA works, and promotes globalization. What Trump is promoting is as someone else said, 'isolationism.'
