Will It Be Enough? BMW X7 To Tackle The Mercedes GLS And Range Rover With Hybrid Powertrain

The BMW X7 has been spotted winter testing wearing less cladding than before, offering the best glimpse of the future large SUV's design and scale yet.

The Mercedes GLS and Range Rover rival will be the largest SUV yet produced by BMW and adopts a typical SUV body shape with a boxy passenger cabin and flat-faced front end. Beneath the camouflage will be familiar BMW design features, such as halo daytime running lights and kidney grilles.

I'd rather have a V12.

If it looks like the existing X5/X6 with the "Flaring Nostrils of a Buffalo getting an enema" front end, they might as well just stop now and focus on the RR Cullinan (which will be the platform mate).

BTW, RR, please find a new name for your SUV. Cullinan is almost as idiotic as Bentayga. They should use some thing simple and elegant, like the Rolls-Royce Spirit. Camargue was actually my favorite RR name (from the 1970's). Just call it the Camargue please.

Cullinan reminds me of Culligan water filters and a serial killer named Cunanan.
Camargue would be much better, or maybe Dusty Ghost.

It would be nice for Rolls Royce to find newer names for their SUVs. Simply using old model/trim names from the past shoes no sense of new creativity. And the fact that they're so afraid the vehicle won't sell, they feel the need to name it after something from decades ago just to help create some possible connection with potential buyers.

Seeing as they - up until a couple years ago - were being extremely snooty about the mere thought of an ultra-luxury coachmaker ever offering an SUV in the 1st place...it's nice to know BMW probably made the business fairly easy for the brand to accept. Ferrari is maybe the last major ultra-luxury sports car maker that has not "planned" any SUV offerings.

It would be nice to see some renderings of this thing. At least to see some kind of scale sizing to relate it to. I had an issue with Infiniti's QX50 - I forgot that it would effectively replace the EX. But since no pics showed a person standing next to the CUV, it was mistaken for an FX/QX70 replacement. But anyhoo....

Seeing as BMW develops their vehicles for max performance - I'm guessing the X7 & the Cullinan share a basic platform, I'm excited to see both.
