Ford recalling over 145,000 vehicles in U.S.

Ford is recalling over 145,000 vehicles in the United States for a range of problems from defective latches to faulty drivetrains, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall involves 139,537 2005 model-year Five Hundred and Montego sedans and 2005-2006 model-year Freestyle wagons because the side door latches may let in water, NHTSA said on its Web site on Tuesday.

This may cause the latch mechanism to freeze in cold weather and the door could open while the vehicle is moving, the agency said.

Separately, Ford is also recalling 6,164 Escape hybrid sport utility vehicles from 2006 model year because a drivetrain shaft may fracture.

If a fracture occurred, it could cause the vehicle to move, even in the park position, NHTSA said.

Just another in a series of bad news for Ford. It could have been worse. This is why extending warranties is going to be a problem. I just dont know if the quality is there yet to make it cost effective.

When you buy a Ford, keep in mind that after a few months you'll have to return it for repairs. It's just like renting one, you don't even get to see it for the first couple of months you have it.

What if Ford had to fold Volvo, Jaguar, Aston MArtin, Mazda and Jaguar? Probably turn a profit and be the next Toyota.

im sorry but honestly people are behind ford i mean when toyota had 400,000 cars recalled it ends up toyota is still considered best in quality. I recently bought the fusion and its been great its been 6 months and it has had no problems. Dont be so harsh on ford i mean their future models are gonna be better the freestyle and five hundred are sucky wait till the edge. And i am extremely happy I havent gotten a camry or yaris or one of those ugly pieces of junk

It's been great for 6 months? You're due for a wake up call. Wait a couple of more months. My dad's company cars were fords and they spent $160k to buy the vehicle and then to replace a bunch of stuff. So basically, they spent about $120k to replace parts.

Toyota has more recalls this year than Ford does. And they still haven't fixed the problem with the Toyota Tundra front end falling apart or the transmission problems with the 2007 Camry.
