Audi Announces Personalized Paint Etching As An Option

Audi describes the solution as “paint etching,” and it can offer personalized designs for its customers with the setup. The first that have access to the new procedure are clients of the R8, which can receive a bespoke design on the side blades of the mid-engined model. The German brand even provided an example of paint etching, and you can see it in the photo gallery.

Audi says that the new feature works with a distinctive powder, that can roughen the clear lacquer on the surface of the paint to a depth of just a few thousandths of a millimeter, which is less than the thickness of a human hair.

I'd rather they make the R8 look inspiring that add a longer option list of doo-dads to dress up an uninspiring design.

Audi is following the Porsche options list. Remember years ago when Porsche offered the buyer to put a name or wording in place or under the 911. Not sure how many 911 buyers went for that though.

Decals work, too.

With this Trump-inspired wave of nationalism that seems to be creeping (and I do mean CREEPing) around the globe - perhaps Audi can put a German Eagle etching/decal on the hood?

From Wikipedia...The coat of arms of Germany displays a black eagle with red feet, beak and tongue on a golden field, blazoned. This is the Bundesadler or "Federal Eagle", formerly the Reichsadler or "Imperial Eagle".
