EPA Told To STOP Research Contracts And Grants On Global Warming And Environmental Projects

The Trump administration has instructed officials at the Environmental Protection Agency to freeze its grants and contracts, a move that could affect everything from state-led climate research to localized efforts to improve air and water quality to environmental justice projects aimed at helping poor communities.

An email went out to employees in the agency’s Office of Acquisition Management within hours of President Trump’s swearing-in on Friday.

Yup, muzzle scientists and research. That is how you stay ahead of China. /s

China played the same game a little while back. Ignored the environment and it came to bite them in the ass when pollution got way out of hand.

Yes you will get a temporary economic boost from this (making Trump's administration look good), but Americans will be the ones paying for it in the long run. This isn't a partisan issue. America has avoided this mess by having a BALANCE of government/scientific oversight and corporate interests.

This is a fluff removal exercise. Not exactly the best starting place for reviewing spend, but a start nonetheless. They need to cut defense spending.

W208: Agreed! Who needs clean air and drinkable water when you're rich? Go profit! Here's to the Uber-Rich, who have made America great, and will make it great again!
</sarcasm>

Hey America: You voted in a billionaire, who is appointing other billionaires, to fix the problems that billionaires created. And that makes sense to ya. Best wishes.

I didn't vote for the blowhard, but I'm not exactly supporting ongoing expense into the survivability of the Eskimo Curlew either. If you eat, breathe, drink it and/or it provides sustenance or valuable research and advancement for those that do, by all means keep it funded. At this point, not much can be done to stop it.

There's a lot of psychology at work here. Unfortunately, for those making the decisions, they're taking their typical stance to protect their own values because they can and with virtually no consequence. For the stakeholder however, be it con. or lib, where does the paystub say that keeping it will help buy that Playstation 4 or Dodge Dually?

Honestly, you wave the possibility (not probability) of money in the face of people, and they go full retard. What can you do other than wait for mid-term elections to see what happens.

I didn't know swamp is so well liked by billionaires. It's full of billionaires now. I know, I know, atleast these new cabinet members are successful billionaires who know how to run a business (via lobby for their industry, take advantage of poorly structured tax laws and outsource to other countries). For some reason, I have a strange feeling these business leaders are going to make their companies/industries profitable before they make America great again.

I am amazed as to all these comments of Trump being a billionaire and all he is doing is appointing Billionaire like minded persons to office so that they can get rich with him. I ask all of you making these comments if you can give us real factual data to prove that under the previous governments our economy and the lives of the working class Americans has improved???? Can you give me facts based data as to all the employees of companies being outsourced to foreign countries due to "Free Trade Agreements" that actually got better jobs and their lives and living standards improved because of these moves????? Keeping jobs in the USA and employing fellow Americans to improve their lives and the economy of the great country that provides every one of you with the liberties you have should always be the number one priority of and leader of this country. The agendas of the UN and any foreign nation should always come second to the betterment of the USA to it citizens. That also includes Aid and Betterment program funding for helping poor and less fortunate people around the world. I have a empathetic heart for people and their struggles but I do not go to work every day and pay my taxes to watch the people of my country be subjugated by the UN initiatives. We the people vote for representatives that are supposed to look after our best interests and the interests of the Nation before pleasing other nations or governing bodies. I would also like Factual Data that can show us deplorable's how all of this regulation and growth of government activities within business has benefitted us (the working class) in getting new jobs or holding onto our existing jobs????? How has the EPA richened the American taxpayer and workers way of life???? What I know growing up in the Steel Belt area of the country is that all those well paying jobs smelting steel have gone to foreign countries and the people that were employed in those positions were not academics and their lives took a turn for the worse when the industry left the area. It may be a dirty industry, as there are plenty of others, but it is an industry that still functions the same as it did in the USA but now functions in a foreign land paying far less in wages which makes the owners/board members/share holders more profit while paying less in wages to make the product. It did not benefit the environment since all we did is relocate the dirty industry from our shores to elsewhere, it did negatively impact the USA citizens though through both the local impact on jobs and the economic impact on the country. To a large number of us wage earning Americans these forms of regulation are a detriment to our ability to richen our lives.

I have to say I totally agree with renegotiating trade agreements and really hope Trump does a really great job doing that. In countries that don't have the same or similar environmental protections we do, put a tariff equal to those regulations, same with worker safety rules, bans or killing of people wanting to form unions etc... However I don't think a race to the bottom is a great idea, ever see pictures of Beijing? I don't think we want that for the US.

I did not say anything about Hillary, just said I hope Trump does a great job renegotiating trade deals. Also no problems looking at regulations, streamlining, eliminating duplicate or waste etc.... on the other hand I don't think we should dump toxic/harmful chemicals into the air and water. If anyone needs to get over it - from his childish reactions to everything from vote fraud to crowd sizes - seems to be Trump. He and his lawyers and fellow GOPRS argue and win in stopping vote recounts to see if there is fraud, now he is convinced 3-5mil people are committing a felony to add their one vote. I think it is not the vote that counts in the end, but rather who and how the votes are counted.

In Malaysia and China... every appointee is an outsourcer except the labor secretary who runs burger joints. Having said that I totally applaud Trump for pushing the jobs in America issue, relook at trade deals revise the F1-B visa program etc... I am there 100%. Have my own company btw...small with 5 employees right now but will expand to three times our current size in March.
