Conspiracy Theory: Is This REALLY The Mid-Engine Corvette - Or A New Cadillac Flagship?

Until recently, the sports car's moniker was thought to be Zora, in the memory of Corvette and racing lover Zora Arkus-Duntov, who helped introduce the small-block V8 engine to the Corvette back in 1955.

The latest rumors were talking about not one, but two new Corvettes to arrive in 2018. The C8 would be a true replacement for the current C7 generation and a mid-engine version to take on the Ferrari 488 GTBs and McLaren 720S' of the world, possibly named Zora.

As it happens, there is an even crazier rumor nowadays, and it not only involves Chevrolet but Cadillac as well. According to some GM insiders, Cadillac is also working on a mid-engine flagship, and its launch may take place as early as 2018, just when the mid-engine Corvette was supposed to emerge officially.

The question is - how much longer will Chevrolet be the basis for General Motors V-8 engines. IF Cadillac is working on another V-8 - it would likely be another 4 Valve per Cylinder OHC unit - a successor to the Supercharged 4.4l Northstar engine. AND That would be the logical engine for a mid-engine sports car over a Chevy V-8. Cadillac needs something to bring people to their dealerships - and this might be just the ticket.

But why would GM develop the rear engine super sports car for only 1 model entry in-mind? Why spend billions to only make 1 model when 2-3 can be had with the same coin?

If they are truly working on a world-class globally competitive rear-engine car, then they are shooting for the stratosphere with performance...which should include a version for Corvette, Cadillac as well.

What I find odd is when you see the prototype along with the Stingray, the prototype looks like it has a wheelbase a foot longer than the Stingray. Corvettes are not dainty to begin with.

If this were a mid-engined, hybrid, coupesedan pretending to be a Corvette in mule form only to become a stunning Escala, then I will applaud.

If the ungainly proportions of the prototype make it to market as a Corvette, well then, Corvette is done.

Corvette needs to be a brand.

IF Corvette becomes a Brand - the question is - where should it be sold from.

Chevy has the Camaro. The Corvette "brand" cars would not really be in the price range of the entry level Chevy dealers other sales. If we assume that a mid-engine Corvette would be above $100,000 or so - can the current Chevy dealers offer the service and amenities that people who buy cars in that range desire.

Cadillac dealers are generally set up to do that. If the Mid-Engine used a Cadillac V-8 as well(Cadillac also services the Chevy v-8 in the escalade) - training one set of dealers for service would be easier and cheaper for GM as well. And with its V-series - Cadillac already has trained its dealers to sell high performance - high priced vehicles as well. It would make a lot of sense to move the Corvette Brand to the Cadillac dealers. If this happened they would have to make Corvette a "Brand" - A Cadillac Corvette Zora is a little much.

Obviously co-branded with Cadillac in stand-alone dealers. That's hardly a mystery.

Corvette "Brand"

"Zora" - Mclaren and Ferrari Fighter 100-150K, C8- stingray to-z06 front engine 50-80K, C8 "Lite" the new entry level vette. turbo4 to 6cylinder twinturbo. 35-50K. Maybe have a hybrid, and or all-electric version. Maybe smaller WHB due to smaller engines. "Avanti" buy out the name. Build off the Camaro chassis. Give it a fiberglass-carbon reinforced plastic body as well. 50-100K. Better body, visibility, and little bit less weight. "Chapparal" a 250-400K Ford GT and Bugatti fighter. Built off Zora chassis, but lighter, more power, and ever
active aero that you can conceive. Even bringing back "fans" like the 2J.

No way is that mule ugly enough to qualify for the Wreath & Crest logo. For starters, it has windows.
