Uber CEO Buckles Under Pressure - Quits Trump's Business Advisory Group
Uber Technologies Inc. CEO Travis Kalanick, facing criticism from immigration advocates for serving on President Donald Trump's business advisory group, quit the group on Thursday, the company said.

The CEO of the ride hailing service had been under mounting pressure from activists who oppose the administration's immigration policies, including Uber drivers, many of whom are immigrants.

Interesting, rather than clear the air make a stand and work for change, he simply runs for cover.

He could have EASILY used the position to influence the leadership and reform the policies. Instead he gives in at the first bump in the road.

So far The Leader has shown that he is not receptive to opinions that do not support his own -- you either agree with The Leader, or you're persona non grata. His gag order on scientist working for some government institutions (not allowed to talk about this so called "climate change" thing) is but one example of The Leader's lack of receptivity to discourse and willingness to engage those who think differently than he does.

My criticism of Kalanick is that at one point, he felt good about working with The Leader, so why the sudden change of heart? It *appears* it might be just to maintain popularity by avoiding "guilt by association".

When over 200,000 people delete your app, you have to act.

This guy has no backbone. What influence will you have to change things on the outside looking in...none. As CEO your objective is to always act in the best interest of the business. Does quitting a presidential advisory committee sound like a winning strategy...not to me no matter which party is in office.

The left is intolerant of opinions that differ from their own. Of course, had a company refused to work with Obama they would have immediately been cast as racist.

MBCLS07: Do you believe "The Right" is any less intolerant of opinions that differ from their own?

With both sides vilifying the other, it's hard to imagine they're not both radical extremists. We might be One Nation, but we are certainly not One People, nor united, nor indivisible, nor a country of tolerance and inclusion.

Today, it's just more apparent, and to many more than it was a year ago. And this might be a good thing. Only when you bring a wound out in the open, and shine a light on it to see it for what it is, can you hope to treat it and heal it.

Considering that a Federal judge has stayed the order and will likely cause this issue to reach the steps of the US Supreme Court, I would say he did right thing. You don't stay at a job you don't like, or in a hotel room that isn't right. You move on. He can do more speaking out as a CEO than trying to convince someone who thinks they are right regardless of the facts. The circus show that is the current White House will continue on until it grinds to a halt approx 4 years from now. Keep Calm. Move on.

More likely people will get sick of charlatans like Trudeau and Merkel and drive them from office. Across the world there is a tide of people sick of the bigotry, intolerance, and hatefulness of Liberals.

Actually there is likely a greater chance of the nationalist political movements in several EU countries being blunted by the 24hr circus current on the go in the White House. People the world over expect good government, confident leadership and peaceful streets. When they don't even get those basics, they move on. A message of hate and fear of the other didn't work in Canada, and it won't work elsewhere after the example Trump is setting. The GOP isn't the problem this time, just him.
