Iranian Car Maker Tries to Hurdle Export Roadblocks
Iran's largest car maker said Tuesday problems with quality and lack of government support were undermining its ambitious plans for a massive increase in exports over the next four years.

Iran Khodro, established in 1962, is seeking to increase its exports to 250,000 cars in 2010 from 6,000 vehicles in the last Iranian calendar year of 1384 (March 2005-2006).

Alireza Mirzai, Iran Khodro's director of exports, said the company's export efforts were focussed on Iran's flagship "national car" the Samand, the successor to the notorious gas-guzzling Paykan whose production has now ceased.

But he outlined a litany of factors which he said showed "poor governmental support" for the company's efforts.

"The government has not been yet able to accept the concept of exports," he said.

Beautiful architecture, most third world countries have something they can be proud of like the sign in Tehran that says "We held the USA hosatge for 446 days". Nice civilization. Women must all wear a veil. Women must walk 5 feet behind their husbands.

Actually, a woman architect designed one of Iran's most prominent sports stadiums in the 70s I believe.

The only thing I find that is semi-update in that design is the projector bulb in the headlight area. ROFL ROFL ... and ROFL.

Iran. I also wonder what they use those cars for? Anyone have thoughts in their minds?

iran is yet to have suicide bombers.
iran is a big country next to iraq. it is ruled by allah (i'm serious, the next people down are allah's interpreters).
however interesting iran is, it is a dangerous country. the irania prime minister recently said death to all israelis, they are going nuclear and are cousing a bit of a world crisis.
veils, walking 5 feet behind, not driving, it is all the muslim culture, you will find it anywhere muslim (eg the UAE, saudi arabia, oman, syria, yemen).
it is not exclusive to iran.

Wow!! All these racist remarks induced by a simple article about an Iranian car manufacturer. It's quiet eye opening. It looks like a very gut-level hatred coming out of my friends from the west. I'm guessing those of us who are Iranian are supposed to read this stuff and conclude that the average western guy is an open-minded loving person who would never reduce a whole nation to a simple minded sterotype.
