2008 Alfa Romeo 149

2008 Alfa Romeo 149
A brand new Italian hot-hatch is currently in development by Alfa Romeo. Coming to replace the 147 that charmed all of us with an unmistakable design back in the year 2000, the new vehicle will be called 149. Following the Alfa Romeo’s “Cuore Sportivo” (sporty soul) slogan, the Italian compact to be launched in late 2007 is expected to surpass in terms of looks of all its competitors and offer a great driving experience. Let us hope that reliability and durability will be there to sustain such a beautiful design.

Good looking cars but they have to bring to America a sense of quality the last time America drove the Alfa brand it was perceived as a lemmon. They have to show the consumer that they have overhauled quality in the brand. The American consumer demands quality out of an automobile not like in the 70s when the big 3 sold you a lemmon and you had to take it. Alfa needs to bring their "A" game here to the States if they want to make any kind of in.

Americans use flawed quality reports and unscientific reporting as their means of judging overall brand quality, then boycott brands they believe for whatever reason aren't "reliable" or "safe".

This is why Alfa Romeo, Citroen, Renault, and Peugeot all left the US market. And after the fabricated claims of 60 Minutes, Audi was almost one of them.

Now Jaguar might be next. Stupid Americans.

I disagree in regards to the headlights. I think the reason why we like this car is that it is unique and tastefull at the same time.

This looks like a fun car to replace my wife's much-missed MINI Cooper S...without selling out and getting the second version of MCS, lol.

I had an Alfa 145 in my college days and it was rubbish. Bits kept falling off and all the stories about it rusting overnight is actually true. Sold it quickly for a Ford Focus instead.

But then, I bought an Alfa 147 Selespeed and gawd that car was awesome. Well built, sweet interior and yes it had in Clarkson-speak "flappy paddle gear lever" but to me, once you adjust to it, the gearbox was great fun. Apart from drinking engine oil every 3k kilometers rather than the stated 5k, not one problem. And this, inspite of me revving it to 7000 rpm all of the time. And you would... just to hear that 4 pot sing. Had it for 3 years before selling it for 5-series cos I needed the boot for the pram. But man... I miss that car.

So yea... their quality doesn't suck anymore I guess.
