Was It Worth It? Alfa Romeo Spends Over $19 Million Introducing The Brand With Superbowl Ads

As the American demand for trucks and SUVs grows, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV decided to turn the attention of millions elsewhere by focusing on the sleek Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan in its trio of Super Bowl commercials.

"Some cars take your breath away," said a female voice-over in the company's third commercial, which aired in the fourth quarter on Sunday evening. "Only one gives it back."

I have a hard time picturing Alfa Romeo becoming a thing in North America.

Personally, I like Alfa's ads during the Bowl. They honestly gave me every reason to want to go to an Alfa dealership first if I was in the market for a 3-Series level car.

Thought they were pretty effective. The coupe version of the Giulia should be quite impressive.

Considering the demand for SUV's here would have been nice to showcase the Stelvio in a commercial.

While the cost of Super Bowl ads are high you are guaranteed access to a huge number of potential customers that you cannot get to easily elsewhere. Money well spent though jury out on whether Alfa can establish a foothold. Read a recent article in enthusiast magazine and journalist said that in a week of driving the car no one even noticed it or commented on it...not a good sign.

Yes it was. All of my non-car friends are asking me about Alfa today.

The commercials succeed as commercials, but when people go the to dealer and find the $75K Quadroformaggio as the only choice initially and the other models coming whenever Alfa gets around to them, things will change. There are no yummy leases for the Quadrapleggio because Alfa knows it will sell every one of the handful available.

Having a good selection of the base and middle model with excellent leases at the start would have launched this car better. This is just another example of Sergio not understanding marketing. Maserati was dead in the water because when it launched the Ghibli, people were excited, but when those people saw the price they balked, left, and never returned. The same will happen with Alfa Romeo on it's 3rd brand relaunch (8C, 4C, and now this).

Experiencing the Quadrifoglio is definitely worth the experience, but for the money, I'd rather have a CTSV.

If anything, I fear that when I drive the lesser models, I will be really disappointed.

Not sure why you are saying this - our local dealer has a bunch of base and Ti configured cars

The ads were great to generate interest in the brand...whether or not the Guilia is a success remains to be seen. As many problems as FCA seems to have...they always have amazing Super Bowl commercials.

i actually loved the commercials, way better than the politically correct anti trump trash they were trying to push or even worse, what the hell was AUDI thinking with that sissy trash about women being equal, F THAT !! 75% of my road rage comes from female drivers !
sorry for the rant, ok, so the ALFA commercials were cool. just not sure its work 20mil !
i wish them luck, would be nice to see more pretty cars on the road- if we can accept huyandai and kia why not alfa ? lets hope they are reliable and can grow here in the states.

If I was in the market for a 3-series update I’d get a 3-series.

I wish they had done something more classic with the grill. I know it is a flexible design element as models of the past all exhibited variations on a theme. I liked the chrome surround and the horizontal bars on older performance models.
