UK Doctors Unite In Quest To Ban Diesel Vehicles From The Road

Nearly 300 U.K. doctors, nurses and other health professionals are calling on the government to remove diesel vehicles from the road as soon as possible because they are causing a health emergency.

The newly formed group is campaigning for greater awareness of the health impacts of diesel emissions and for immediate action to reduce the number of diesel vehicles.

It sent a letter to Prime Minister Theresa May stating a government-led national diesel reduction initiative would represent a major public health advance.

The "nearly 300" doctors representing this cause represent a tiny minority of all UK doctors. Some might call that "being on the leading edge," while others "on the fringe."

All internal combustion engines emit harmful exhaust. Diesels are not alone in that. All the fear-mongering is based on engines that don't meet current regulations. Yes, getting the older, smoke emitting models off the road would be a good thing. But the latest models with particulate filters and cat converters are cleaner than most gas engines now. Their lower fuel consumption makes them an ideal engine to help reduce fossil fuel consumption while the next technologies are developed.

Now now, those UK doctors that represent the underlying belief in science must be taken with a grain of salt. They're the same type who share the same belief in science with those so-called scientists who spout that global warming crap.

So your're happy breathing the stuff coming out of diesel car exhausts ? The NOx, the soot ? And you'd lump these 300 doctors with the global warming crap camp ?

The Passat TDI I just returned to VW (and I miss it already) had virtually nothing coming out of the exhaust that was detectable to the nose. No obnoxious smell, nothing viable, nothing. Yes, I realize there are invisible emissions, as there are with gas engines. But when I started the Passat in the garage, there was nothing. When I start the Q5 I bought to replace it, the exhaust is immediately noticeable and irritating.

Yes, I was much happier breathing the exhaust from my Passat than my Audi. I wouldn't want to breath either for long periods, but overall the diesel had the gas engine beat by a mile.

I am sorry to say that Global warming is NOT crap. There is NO DOUBT that the earth is currently in a warming cycle - the temperature statistics along with the melting of the polar ice caps and the raising of the ocean levels ARE happening and cannot be denied.

What IS in question is what is causing this phenomenon. Ie - whether it is man made - or it is part of the natural cycles of the earth - or a combination of both. My guess is that it is at least partly caused by the increased number of politicians making long winded - non-comprehensible - and unintelligent speeches on things they know almost nothing about.

Diesel is a DUMB technology given the Rube Goldberg engineering necessary to make it s "good citizen" so to speak. Hybrid technology is simply better.

Nonsense - Diesel Technology was the only real option for very large trucks for decades - when Hybrid technology did not even exist.

TO judge this article - remember that ALL vehicles put emissions into the air - includings EVs at the power plant - and one COULD make a statement that they all cause problems for people breathing the air - and yet Humans are born with Legs -as are many animals - a far less polluting method of transportation. Long distance transporation could was once done with BOATS with humans at the oars too.

@TomM the operative word in your rambling is the word "WAS" and even for trucks, electrification is the way forward. Perhaps it's time for you to dodder off the the rest home so you can go on and on about the used-to-be world you live in.

I used to live in Berlin and can say all the diesel fumes there was awful and I believe were the cause of my migraines. Once I moved back to Toronto which is a bigger city with more cars but predominantly gas they were gone. Not exactly scientific but...
