Parent Company Of Volvo In Negotiations With Proton To Aquire Lotus

The PSA Group is in negotiations with Proton to purchase the company, but the Lotus brand could be bought by Chinese manufacturer Geely, reports suggest.

Although currently negotiating a deal to takeover General Motors Europe, PSA has confirmed it is talking to Proton over a move and is reportedly ready to invest and build a new plant in Malaysia.

A spokesperson for PSA said: "We are in the process of negotiation and have no further comments to add at this time."

If you're a Lotus fan, you should pray that Geely wins. Geely is going places and PSA is French merde going nowhere.

Wow! This would be fantastic news for Lotus. Geely bought Volvo, left them alone, pumped in cash and Volvo now riding high. Can you imagine what Lotus could build if it had the capital and was left alone to build the best damn cars it could.

Geely did NOT leave Volvo alone because that would be corporate idiocy. Geely used Volvo's engineering arm to create new platforms that would be used by both Geely and Volvo. Indeed, the Geely crossovers that are scheduled to come to the USA will be the same under the metal as the next XC60 and following them will be an "XC40" and a Geely.

By leaving them alone I meant didn't dictate changes from above in contrast to Volvo's core values to bring them in line with their corporate owners' mandates. Ford for example. Geely gave the Swedes the freedom to make cars consistent with Volvo's heritage and strengths and to a Swedish design envelope.

Indeed that's what Volvo's PR says...but then again if it got out just how Chinese the Volvos are...It's the same corporate BS that FCA is doing with Alfa Romeo...the platform cannot be from a pedestrian vehicle first.

If it gets them a step closer to the old Danny Barr product plan (that was shelved) to create a fully line up of cars 4cyl/V6/V8 to compete with Ferrari, I am all for it. The return of the Esprit is long overdue. Evora's are not my cup of tea.
