Should They? Mercedes Reconsiders Launch Of Mid-Sized Truck In US Market
Daimler's Mercedes-Benz Vans division is looking closely at a growing demand in the United States for mid-sized pick-up trucks to see whether there is market potential to launch its X-Class model there, divisional head Volker Mornhinweg said on Friday.

Mercedes-Benz Vans has already developed a mid-sized pick-up truck to be sold in South America and Europe, but has so far shied away from launching it in the United States because customers there have traditionally preferred full-sized vehicles.

Not until it's not a Nissan.

Amen! Mercedes tying up with Renault-Nissan was DUMB. Slapping Mercedes badges on a Navara and creating a Mercedes pickup is just idiotic.

Bring it, Lexus are Toyotas and that hasn't stopped them from overtaking BMW in the states, Benz has such momentum and largest ownership to date of new consumers. An increasing amount of businesses both large and small are buying up
benz's cargo vans and I'm 100% sure this truck won't have any problem finding a home wether it be a consumer's driveway or business garage/lot

Lexus and BMW are not in the same class- The largest sellers in Lexus are a converted Toyota Avalon Based Es 350 Front Wheel Drive car - and its SUV Counterpart - the RX. Lexus is really a near luxury sedan competing with Buick and Volvo.

The largest selling BMW is a real sports sedan - the 3 series. Lexus has NO sports sedan that competes closely (in sales) with the 3 series.

Mercedes and Nissan sell in diametrically opposed segments of the market - Mercedes is High end - and Nissan is Tails end. If the Mercedes/Nissan pick up does not live up to what is expected from a Mercedes - They might not be able to bring in the real thing later. Be fair though - Slapping a three pointed star on a low end piece of junk - was a PROFIT move. It will work in many backward countries - like many in Europe and the Middle and far east - but American consumers will not be fooled. They could sell them through Freightliner though.

At any rate - Mercedes would need to produce those Trucks in the USA in order to escape the "Wrath of Trump" - and if they need to produce a whole new production plant - they may as well make a whole new MERCEDES truck too.

@TomM...yet again you are horribly wrong. Look at the price classes where Lexus and BMW are most active and you will see that they are very much competitors.

I thought Lexus' problem is that they don't have enough SUV/CUVs to fill all the size categories. Customers want them, they just don't have them to sell.

And just like with all the other automakers, isn't BMW selling more SUVs than sedans/coupes?

If M-B is thinking about a mid-size luxury p/u, this is the time to try it. Their initial release in the UK will provide a huge amount of data for dealers, industry insiders, & auto journalists. As long as they provide a p/u that is visually more luxurious & bling-worthy than the Ridgeline/Canyon/Colorado/Tacoma/etc then they'll probably do OK in the US.

Mercedes already sells full size trucks, delivery trucks, pizza vans and cars of every size and description. Why not also provide pick up truck so they can show the world how a pick up SHOULD BE designed and built.

I wonder if they will be full of rust in 1 year like the sprinter vans I see in the north east?

Or break in half like the Nissan Navara is prone to do because of rust.

I'm sure a lot of people don't even realize how many M-B trucks they've been seeing on the roads in the US - disguised as commercial vans & trucks.
