#GIMS2017: TEASED! Volvo Prepares Us For Its NEXT BIG Thing, The XC60
Ever since Volvo came out of the gate with the all-new XC90, it's apparent that the Swedish marque has an all-new burst of energy from under its wings. This is welcome because previously there wasn't much to offer.

Sure, the brand had its loyalists but it wasn't doing anything for anyone from a product perspective. There was no juice there.

Fast forward to present day and the all-new sport-utility vehicle to have is the XC90. In the New York Tri-State these things are popping up everywhere and are just as common as the all-new Audi Q7. Pretty amazing for a small volume manufacturer.

While the follow up act was the S90, the reality is sedans are not doing so well today. What we've really been waiting for is the smaller Volvo SUV, the XC60.

Well, friends, the time has come. Debuting at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show will be the XC60. As of now information is non-existent; however, some teaser shots have made their way online.

Take a peek and let us know what you think, Spies!

The XC90 still has quite a way to go before it equals the sales of its Mercedes and BMW competition. the XC90 is an OK start, but it's not the volume model Volvo so desperately needs. The XC60 has a better chance IF they can keep pricing sane.

Sorry Matt - but the Volvo is not even in the same class as Mercedes or BMW - they have always been a step down - in the next level - with Lexus, Infiniti, Buick (Mercury and Saab now gone) DS, and Lincoln. That their pricing is approaching the high levels of the next class is one reason why their sales are as poor as they are. They are not perceived as a highest level sports or luxury sedan by most Americans. And all four cylinder engines will not cut it at that level either.

As usual Tom you are misinformed about how the market works. The XC90 and the Germans are VERY similarly priced. Moreover, buyers shop largely by price first then by type of vehicle then by brand. Thus If I have $75K to spend, I see what cars are available, then narrow down to type (probably crossovers), then to brand (usually by who has the best lease offer).

No- Matt - I am not confused or in error - For most of MY life - the Volvo was NOT a direct competitor to the true Luxury Vehicle producers - it was a step below them - competing with Mercury, Buick, Audi, Saab - and those other near luxury European and Japanese vehicles. People in the USA simply do not equate a VOLVO with a Mercedes at any level. People do not Shop by price first - Matt - there is a certain panache' of having a true luxury brand - and Volvo is aspiring to that but they are not selling well enough to matter.

Now - VW has attempted to move Audi upscale - but the reality is that only their smaller cars actually sell in the USA - the larger ones are more or less Boat ANCHORS - AND Lexus has also tried to do that - but they still sell mostly low end Es350s and RX level Crossovers.

I am really looking forward to this new XC60. I've always loved this car since the current generation was intro'd. With looks inspired by the XC90 and hopefully an enhanced cabin, this may be a true winner. Forget about the Q5 and NX/RX, this XC60 and the GLC may be the choice cars in this class.

Tom, your post makes no sense. The Volvo XC90 is absolutely in the same "league" as the German SUVs and its sales numbers run neck and neck with the Audi Q7 globally, which is not bad. X5 and GLE (and Lexus RX) sell so well in the US due to heavily subvented leasing programs...Volvo and Audi are not as aggressive in this department. The XC90 has a wonderful interior and is packaged amazingly well...it has significantly more usable interior room than the X5 /GLE (usable third row) and modestly more usable interior space than the more expensive Q7. To move up to the GLS is a lot more money. According to your logic the X5/GLE are duds because they are outsold by the Lexus RX...

Yes - I know the Volvo is SIMILARLY priced with the real Luxury Brands - but they are OVERPRICED compared to their real status as a near Luxury Vehicle that competes with Buick - not Mercedes. That is why they don't really sell well in comparison - Because people DO NOT compare the Volvo directly with a real Luxury Brand. THat they are trying to move UPSCALE and pricing themselves that way is not an indication that the market accepts them at that level.

I really like the current design language of Volvo. Not sure if it is Swede or Gheely infused -but it works. Not enough for me to buy one but I do find myself eyeing these things as they drive by and appreciate the conservative yet uniqueness styling of it. Then again I also liked the 850GLT turbo when it first came out. No I am showing my age...

Very nice car I am sure.

It's the name and logo, everything about them scream "old".
